Does anyone else brakes squeek??
On the ITR lately...
I've noticed in the morning after 5-6 minute warm up
that when i drive for the first 3-4 minutes that my brake squeek
like is it just cuz its a Honda and its cold....
it wasnt' doing that in the beginning, but now it is
the acura dealer said all cars do that when its cold etc etc....
do i need my rotors refinished or something?
or what could be the problem..
i don't drive hard or brake hard at all...
car has around 17000 miles on it or so (converted from KM)

My brakes squeak but I dont care. I stop on a dime and thats all I care about.
Alot of it has to do with lubrication. If you buy a simple 0.99 packet of lube from Autozone, it will resolve your problem for sure.

My rears squeak. I always suspected it was because of having the parking brake on in the garage at night. (not perfectly level floor)
My question is: what is squeaking?? I wish I knew...

i know i have the hand brake up in my garage as well
is that a factor
(could it be?)
but i doubt it
like i think my rears squeek and sometiems my fronts not so sure
i've asked a few local itr owners they said they had that problem before too
and it went away after they service the rotors or changed pads though
hmmm
maybe the brake pads are busted or rotors

You know those metal shims on the back of the pad? They are made to make it not squeak. If you look at some of the pads, I think Cobalt? (not sure), they have a really soft pad like material, almost feels like a rubber.
thx for the info migs
learning a few things here and there too
just was wondering its kinda annoying to hear squeeking sometimes
in summer time it never happened.
was that cuz of the weather being warmer?

cold weather makes the disc colder so when it touches the pad it squeeks
thats my theory of idiotness haha
when its hot the disc is a bit warmer the pad therefore sticks better = less squeeking haha
thx migs for the help though

My CCX's used to squeal like a 5 dollar ***** on 2 for 1 **** night, but since i put new rotors on and bedded them in correctly, they don't make a sound anymore
Try getting your rotors cut and rebed the pads in.

I suppose you could just use WD-40 on your rotors and pads.
They should't "squeak" after that, but they probably wont stop well either.
disclaimer: follow my advice at your own risk, but your brakes most likely won't squeak thereafter!

I have never had that problem with stock pads
Brakes commonly squeak during cold conditions or EXTREME weather changes. You get alot of that in Texas.
Squeaking is caused from vibration.

i can see them making noise when cold, but it should go away once warmed up normal operating temperatures. My Panther+'s make noise all around town. The only time it goes away is when I slam on the brakes for some quicker than normal stop then they go away until it cools down again. BTW, they don't even make noise when I was at buttonwillow though. The shims on the pads w/ some grease should make the noise go away if you have OEM pads. Thats my guess, Hope this helps

Whenver installing pads you should always out some anti-seize lubricant on the pade bracket that holds the pad, that insures that there is no sqeaking. The ITR is a performance car so the dealship guy who told you that its normal is somewhat correct. On performance cars the brake pads usually have a higher coefficient heat and the friction material may be semi-metallic or metallic which is also only found on performance vehicles. All this equates to a ITR with pads that take longer to warm up due to its performance nature and that could result in some sqeaking as well.

I would hope that everyone here can tell the difference between brake squeak and the tab rubbing on the rotor. I would bet that just about EVERY R owner on this board that runs race/aftermarket HIperf pads has some pretty audible brake squeek. it is not the tab that is on the brakes (that by the way was engineered for morons that dont know dick about general maintainance and take their cars to dealers when their brakes squeek). Did you also know that the masterbrake cylinder is designed to hold exactly the amount of fluid it takes to use up the brake pads and extend the pistons down to your wonderful little moron tab? when you get to the tab, at the same time, your brake light will stay on telling you your fluid is low? another "take your car to the dealer and bend over signal"
Pad sqeek is caused by vibration between the pad and the piston calipers. mine squeek every single time i step on them and guess what, i put them on 4 weeks ago and they are barely broken in, and to top it off, I cut the fukin tab off of mine because it serves absolutlely no purpose. So here is an idea, go post your response on http://www.momswithsuvsandstupidquestions.com and lets give some accurate answers to questions here on this board.

Here's a guess:
The anti-squeal compound on the back of the pad is designed to absorb the vibrations of the pad as it "grabs and releases" the rotor. When the weather turns cold, or maybe just after some time, the compound dries up or gets hard and is no longer providing the "mushy" layer between the pad and the piston.
Remove the pads, check the wear, and reinstall them with a fresh applicaiton of the anti-squeal compound.

1. I don't have any squeaking with my Endless CC-X pads. So I guess you're wrong about that.
i notice when i wash my car and clean the brakes thoroughly the squeeking is gone, but later on in the day it come back. highly abrasive brake pads means alot more brake dust.
