How do you expect us to help you with out ANY information.

Define the following:
1. going overboard
2. logical price - give a number
3. lots of bass

All three of those terms are VERY subjective. For instance, here's how I would answer:
1. relocating an ecu and removing the spare tire...not over board
2. logical - under $5000 in equipment
3. if I hit a legal 140 dB I'll be happy

I'm not trying to be an ***, but no one can guide you in the right direction if we have no info. I could easily recommend a system that I think would be sweet, but you could totally hate it.

Help us by clearing those things up and letting us know what you've heard before...what is enough bass, what you are looking for, how much room you want to give up, what car, what's in your system now...etc....the more the better, then we can help you out. Until then everyone will be shooting in the dark!

Just trying to help you out

Ok, basically, I dont know much about systems, I am mellow with like two 12's, lots of bass would just mean what I could get to hit really hard for like 1500-2000 dollars. I dont have that much to spend. Actually, just tell me something that would be good for under 1000, thats not going over board, meaning not getting like 6 12's and 4 14's. thats what i meant by that, i dont think your being an ***, Hope this helps...

Under a grand is a little tough for good quality stuff, but let me throw out this one suggestion.

Head unit: Pioneer DEHP740MP $269.95
http://www.awe1.com/search.asp?search=DEHP740mp

Speakers: Infinity Reference. Component $134.95
http://www.awe1.com/detail.asp?mdl=605cs

Infinity Reference. Coaxial $69.95
http://www.awe1.com/detail.asp?mdl=652i

Amplifier: Alpine MRVF450 $349.95
http://www.awe1.com/detail.asp?mdl=MRVF450

Sub woofer: Infinity Perfect 10.1 $169.95
http://www.awe1.com/detail.asp?mdl=Perfect10.1
(note price is incorrect on the prior link)

Misc wiring, RCA's etc. About $100.00

Its about $1,100....so a little over what you were looking at price range wise. But this would be a simple, very nice sounding system, with high quality components.

I can make it happen for you J/K

Let me know if you are interested in anything or if you have additional questions.

yup, i was gonna say the exact same thing.

http://www.ikesound.com has the infinity reference components for 110 or something.. and most the other stuff for cheaper.
also 100 for wiring, even including RCAs... is crazy.
get the 4 gauge kit from http://www.knukonceptz.com
great kit for cheap $30 + shipping which in my case was 7 dollars.
and might i suggest different subs.
2 Alpine 12" Type-Rs can be had for 230-250
a good amp to push those would be a Alpine MRD-M500

2 15" elemental Design K-series ($145 each)
BEtter audio M1600M1 (1600x1@1ohh) ($325 shipped)
6.5" Crystal Mobilesound components ($140+shipping)
US Acoustics USX2100 component amp($122.99+6.95 shipping)
knuconceptz wirings-$50

about $934.94

now find a headunit you like and you're set. you won't be dissapointed in this setup. it'll get crazy loud with great SQ.

don't worry...i built my system and it costed around $1000 for everything. lets see..

Alpine CDA-7965 $210 shipped
CDT audio Cambria components $140 shipped
US acoustics USX-4065 $90 shipped
EDesign 15" K-series $136.50 shipped
DEI 1100D sub amp $207 shipped
Knukoncepts wiring $50 shipped
homemade ported box $20

TOTAL=$853.50 shipped

u just gotta know where to shop at. find the best deals even if its used. get as much details as you can. i bought my alpine deck used, but it came like new. reported some scratches, but haven't found any. everything i got was a deal on
i find that buying used stuff (thats been used for a short time) is much better than buying new because i don't really want to fork out an extra $80 or so just to get the same performance when the product is already quality. (not all stuff i have is used though; only amp and headunit)

go to forums and look around.

"BEtter audio M1600M1 (1600x1@1ohh) ($325 shipped)"
Yea right

"homemade ported box $20"
Making a box ok.
Making it right no.
Yours is probably ok but how many people do you think can make it to the right specs.

i know many people that can do it. i had people that has never putted a box together got great results. how hard is it to cut up pieces of wood to spec and put it together? if i say "make a 12"x12" board" i'm willing most people can do it. just take it easy and it'll be fine.

JUNK If its so good everyone would have one. 1600 watts for 325$ haha
No way that thing puts out that much power. Just look at the fuse on the amp prob 2 30 amp fuses. You get what you pay for.

u made me laugh my *** off on that one!! buahaha!!!! do you even know the amp? not everything has to be expensive. the price is for introductory. why doesn't everyone have that amp? because its just available not long ago. a few people have it and they love it. been benched tested already and it puts out more power than rated at (rated at 1500x1, benched about 1600). please...reasearch before you say anything. calling it junk is very ignorant. its like saying elemental design subs are junk because they are inexpensive. if you're still in doubt, buy the amp and if it doesn't put out as much power as it says, i'll reimburse you for it. if it does put out its power, or more, then i'll keep the amp. deal? you'll learn that great things don't always have to cost a lot, but if you insist on paying a lot for the same results, by all means go ahead. i'm not stopping you.

I just got my headunit in from ikesound yesterday... really fast and very good prices.

http://www.ikesound.com/Prod_Details.asp?Prod_Id=1154

Ikesound has ebay auctions and I got that headunit for $175 shipped. It looks so much hotter in person because the thing lights up blue and glows blue around the sides! Its a lot better looking then i expected.
