Default anyone ever build up a NA LS motor??

I have a 96 SE

There are too many choices when it come to engines, and power.

I think this would be a pretty cheap route. To build up a NA LS. ( not LS/VTEC )

I am shooting for 200whp with this setup.
It would be totally sleeper cuz you pop your hood it would look like a bolt on modded LS engine.

So far all I have is a CAI for power adders.

Possible setup
11.5 to 1 Compression ratio forged pistions ( maybe higher compression? )
upgraded connecting rods
new piston rings
SS 4 to 1 header
Hondata intake manifold gasket
Crower cams
upgraded valve springs/ retainers
taper bored throttle body
ECU ( hondata maybe?)
full catback exhaust

Possibly lightly porting the intake and exhaust ports.
Maybe skunk2 intake manifold
test pipe maybe?

Anything else I should consider?

I dont know that much about NA LS motors, but i think it would be pretty difficult making 200whp without vtec??

But with that set up it seems like it would be at least a 160+ whp because of the higher compression.

maybe sleeving the block to a 2.0?

But good luck on that set up... it sounds nice

Oops cam gears added

stock compression ratio is 9.2:1
with 140hp

i would hope that higher compression would get some decent power

HXGuy (doesnt post here anymore) made 170whp/150+tq with a similar setup but he started with a B20. You might want to talk to Halo or jinxproof.

A 200whp NA LS or B20 wont sound so "sleeper" and I doubt that it will be very streetable. If you are going all out you might want to consider a ITR, Si tranny, or you can swap the ITR FD into your LS tranny.

I had a mild NA build on my LS. 10.5 compression, crane cams, skunk cam gears, I/H/E. It was tough to drive on the street because the cams had such a hard time idleing. With some advace on the intake cam and some retard on the exaust my motor made 147.5 hp. With bigger cams, higher compression, head work and something like hondata you could be getting very close to your 200hp goal. But I promise you that the car will be a pain in the neck on the street.

I don't know if that is all that possible....I know I was looking into going all motor GSR, and I was only hoping for 220-225 horse....about a 50-60hp gain. Plus it costs about as much as a turbo in the long run.

If I remember correctly HXGuy had the following:

B20Z
11.5 -11.7 : 1 CR
Type R intake manifold
Crower 62404 cams (@ +4, -4)
OBDI with raised redline
no headwork
JDM Type R 4-1
2.25" catback
3" CAI
light flywheel/better clutch
GSR transmission

...in a 97 HX coupe with some weight reduction he was doing around 13.3s on slicks in the 1/4.

Now jinxproof had the following I think:

2.0 LS block
Crower 62404
OBDI LS ecu with raised redline
skunk2 IM
JDM dc 4-1 & 2.5 " exhaust
stock compression
flywheel/clutch (i think)
b16 transmisson w/ Quaiffe

All in a 92-95 CX hatch...did 13.3 on slicks as well.

Both engines were in the 165-175 whp range = 193 - 205 crank hp

200 whp with that motor is nearly impossible if not completely impossible.

It's totally up to you and how much money you have, but a turbo would be more cost efficient.

How do you fit a type r intake manifold up to the b20z head?? I didn't think it was possible.

sorry to burst your bubble, but 200 NA LS = impossible.

You might as well boost it or do an LSvtec conversion

It could be done with enough money dumped into it. But it would be far from streetable.

Vtec is a great way of producing a nice smooth powerband, but its not the only method to getting high HP.

Why do you think toda made vtec killer cams?
They basicly eliminate the lower cams to reduce weight. What they have is very high end breathing. Vtec is not the only way to get high power out of a small NA engine.

Like I said, it would be far from streetable but its not impossible.

its not impossible, but it will be a good test...i have yet to dyno my car and get it tuned but my current set up is crower 404's +2 -2, safc, jg pro-series head, jg intake manifold, i/h/c/e. the idle is not to bad, and this is my daily driver..anyways as soon as i get sum money saved up i will dyno it and let you know what the results are..

Too many damn choices.
I've been reading some not so good experience with superchargers from ppl.
Now im confused.
maybe ITR motor go NA ??

actually my car is fast enough as it is...

gonna work even more on handling and brakes before I work on power....we'll see...I have plenty of time to change my mind again.
