Default Ripped outer cv boots.....replace them or the whole shaft?

Both of my outer cv boots are ripped, should I replace just the 2 CV boots or the whole shaft? If I replace the whole shaft, I would need to buy both left and right shaft right?

True, but I think replacing the Boots is going to cost as much labor as the whole shaft.......

after removing wheel, remove the large nut that holds axle in place, remove upper ball joint nut and free ball joint from spendle. take a medium to large punch (depending on your conception of medium or large) place in the diviot in the end of the axle and wack with a hand sledge untill it is knocked free from the spendle. carefully dismantel the end of the shaft, slip new boot onto shaft and remantel the end of the axle, crimp the bands on the boot, reassemble your car and repeat for the other side.

did i leave anything out guys?

Is the axles making clicking noises? If they are just replacing the boot is not even a option.Do hard right and left turns in your car and listen for clicking.I like turning in the old axles for cores and just getting new axles weather they are making noise or not.Reason for this is because sometimes even when the axles aren't making noise when you reboot them they can start making that noise shortly down the road then you just spent money for a boot kit when that money could of just gone into core replacements.

its really easy to replace the entire axle.. just go buy a remanufactured one for $100. it takes a professsional mechanic to do the job in 30 minutes... it'll take you like 2 hours

You can just replace the boot or go purchase a rebuilt boot. I think NAPA has them.
