Default Warm/Hot shifter and lower console..

My shifter and lower center console seem to get warm/hot sometimes.. just wondering if anyone has this problem and what could be the cause of this. I can't seem to find a pattern of when it does get hot and when it doesn't. Any ideas?

its normal. the shift linkage is close to the exhaust pipe. so naturally the heat from the exaust will eventually heat the shifter.

i don't ever remember it actually getting warm/hot the previous 3 years i've had my car though.. the biggest annoyance is the fact that the lower center console gets warm/hot too, so it feels like there's a heater near my leg..

i've owned a 90 Gs (RIP) and currently own a 89 crx Si. the warm shifter problem has occured with both of these cars. you don't feel the heat from the shift ****, but from the shifter itself. sometimes i shift holding the shifter (don't ask why i just do) and it gets quite warm.

I've always noticed that the shifter itself does get warm, but my lower center console is getting pretty warm/hot too. That's what bothers me... did you have that problem too? thanks.

Factory exhaust has heatshields along its entire length. Some are bolted to the car & some to parts of the pipe. Are any of those getting rusty & falling off?

Same problem here. I can feel a bit of air flowing in around the e-brake area. This happens if i roll the window down, then that creates an open flow for the air to circulate so the warm air creeps up from underneath. But if I keep my window up, then it wont get warm inside. And yes it does feel like i have the heater on sometimes. Im not sure if im missing a heat shield. But ive though of using some that therma-wrap stuff used for fixing temp exhaust problems, and place it under the car. Anyone else have a solution for this

Perfectly normal.

There isn't much besides the heatshield that prevents heat from rising up into the shifter area which is only protected by a rubber boot.

I started to feel heat come out of my E-brake right after I got my exhaust. It doesnt happen all the time; only sometimes. I always drive my car hard, so that can't be why it only happens sometimes. But I don't think it's anything to really worry about.

Yeah... that's why the heatshields are there! Unless we can feel just how hot it is, we're guessing whether its OK. If all the heatshields are rusted or you took them off, the worst that can happen is you set fire to the rubbery undercoating under your car.
Most likely, its not hot enough to do that. But we can't feel it from here.

You can try putting exhaust wrap on that specific part of the exhaust underneath the shifter area to reduce some heat.
