I have been debating recently if i should turbo my car or not. I was wondering if i would have to have a fully built motor before i could run boost. Ive got a 97 Vtec with 62k miles on it.

while it is always best to reinforce the engine, it is possible to run low boost safely with very minor mods
at very least lower the compression and resleeve the block

 

if your just looking to run 8 psi around the street, you should be fine with stock internals. do a cylinder leakdown test first on your car and see how your compression is holding up though first. other then that, your basic fmax or drag kits will allow you to safely boost 8psi, if you have the money go with a v-afc so you can tune your fuel curves. or if you wanna go all out, get the hondata.

 

I plan on having all the bolt ons and a Vafc before i do anything. Is it possible to get a decent turbo kit for under 5,000 installed?
