Default Dry Sump oil system

what exactly is the bennefit of running a dry sump oil system? I know it eliminating windage, but how much power does windage take away? I have looked around a little at the systems, and it is incredibly expensive $2,500 or more!! I am planning on building a DART block B20 over the next year, and plan on spending the money to do it right, but $2500. is a lot, I make good money, and would do it if it is worth it!! thanks for any info you can provide...

most folks install dry sump systems to solve oil starvation problems; the kind of problems you encounter on the road race circuit when running slicks.

they are expensive because they involve two oil pumps, lots of lines, coolers, reservoir tanks, custom pans, and fittings...

they are most definitely not suited to a street car;

good luck.

it is not really a street car in the traditional sense, It will be driven on the street, pretty much only to and from the local tracks, one is 15 miles away, the other is about 40 miles away. for other tracks it will be towed by my friends truck. if a high volume internal pump will provide enough oil then it seems pointless to spend the $ thank you for the info

Dry sump systems allow you to run less oil in the case at any given time (of course not a small enough amount to starve the engine). This reduces windage. Also, the dry sump pump will pull a good crankcase vacuum allowing you to use low-tension piston rings, further reducing internal drag and give you a better safety margin when the RPM hits the stratosphere.

Probably not worth the expense in a Honda B-series however, unless you're making some serious power and revving the car to rev limit, up hill, against the wind, 24-7. ;-)
