Default coolant question

Ok, what does everyone use for antifreeze? Should I get Prestone or whatever is the Pepboys special or go get some dealer stuff? I don’t really feel like paying twice as much for the watered down stuff from the dealer, unless it’s worth it…

I just want to make sure it's safe with aluminum blocks

Thanks for the help anyone

Evan

Use Honda fluid. (50:50 cooland, distilled water) for winter.

During the summer months, (30:70 w/some water wetter).

I used to do this too, but after my last coolant flush, I noticed corrosion in the cap from the distilled water & water wetter combo. I'm not going to go back now that that happened, it's 50:50 for me from here on out

Check you radiator cap, it will clue you in to the first signs of problems. My problems started only a few months after having the water and coolant in.

well since I live in florida I use distilled water and some water wetter.

distilled water should not corrode. My radiator is fine, as is my turbo beaters, as is the MR race car's radiator.. and that car has had distilled water (sometimes water wetter too) only for about 4-5 years at least (since it was purchased by the team)

I was always told the antifreeze lubricates the water pump and such. You telling me you have run straight distilled water in a daily driver for almost 5 years? I assume you live in a climate that never gets below 40's…

rarely get's below 40. weather at 32 degress does not instantly mean the water in the motor and rad will become ice. as I said in my first reply "since I live in florida" but then I guess some don't read..
