I want to know also. Cable tranies are cheaper and better for racing IMO.

An ITR final drive will not fit in the 90-91 trannies (Y1). You can switch the 4.26 final drive out of the Y1 with a 4.40 final drive from a S1 or J1.

A few calculations:

J1/S1 versus Y1

First gear: 5.1% shorter
Second gear: 5.5% shorter
Third gear: 5.8% shorter
Fourth gear: 0.6% shorter
Fifth gear: who cares

To find these numbers, I just took the FD multiplied by the gear ratio for a particular gear and compared this number for S1/J1 to the same number for the Y1. Is this the right way to do it?

Another thing about the Y1. If you have stock LSD you can't swap out the FD without getting rid of your stock LSD.

G-force racing makes a Honda gear set. Although i dont think they sell it, they might make it for someone who does sells it. call them. use google or something to search for G-force.

Quaife fd's can only be used with the quaife gearset. I believe they are about $2800/set.

have you done this? did you just use the fd ring from the s1, on the y1 diff?

YS1 is the way to go if you can get one because it uses the new bigger style input shaft and gears, plus, easy to find parts, but make sure you get a GSR YS1 and not LS YS1

Beside gearing is there a difference? I prefer the gearing of the Ls. Torque owns.

I have a 93 LS YS1 don't let anytone fool you they suck like the phantom vacuum cleaner get yourself some short gears and a big 4.6 final drive instead of the gay 4.26 like mine has. It's ghey with a G-H ;-)

is this true? is it possible to use other oem cable final drives with the Y1 LSD (JDM YS1 final inside Y1 tranny with LSD)?
