Installing energy susp shifter bushings
Like the topic says, i'm doing it tomorrow in automechanics class. I'll be doing it while the car is on a lift to make it easier. Anyone have tips for the install, or do the small instructions clear up everything? They seem a little confusing to me. Pics would help too.. Thanks
They are pretty straightforward. With a lift it should go by fast. You might want to use some kind of silicon spray or lubricant when trying to press the new ones in. It helped out a lot. You will definitely like these. It makes shifting feel much more precise.
the install should be VERY EASY. It's only 2 bushings right? One round one w/ a hole through it and a kind of rectangular one w/ 3 holes in it? If so, it's 3 bolts in all. If the round one(the one that goes into the end of the change extension where it pivots on the tranny) isn't already cut down the middle, CUT IT! Trust me, if it's one piece, like my neuspeed one was, take a razor blade and cut it down the middle, otherwise you'll have one hell of a time trying to press it in. If you look at pics of most poly shifter bushings online, you'll see what I mean.. the "round" bushing comes in two pieces. Installing these two bushings takes like 10 minutes once its up on a lift. good l uck!
No need to cut the donut. Use (2) slabs of wood or metal and a c-clamp to press it in with a little bit of KY jelly, astroglide, or other favorite backdoor lube. Pops right in!
I was able to press in by hand/thumb with only the use of silicone spray, but man was my thumb hurtin' afterwards.

DONT CUT ANYTHING WITH THE SHIFTER BUSHINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just take wd-40 and use a little elbow and it pops right in. its helps alot, you should look into cutting class before shop and go pick up a short shifter.

Thanks for the tips. The bushings came with a tube of pre-lube, so hopefully that will be enough. I'll be doing the install at like 930, i'll let ya'll know how the install went later today....sounds pretty straightforward
I dont know how hard the polyurethane is on the energy bushings, but my neuspeed one was basically a hard plastic. There was no way we could force it in with just lube.. we tried everything, even using a press. If a little lube and force will get it in, then go for it.. but if that doesnt work, I'm telling you, just cut it straight down the middle w/ a razor blade, so that it makes 2 donut shaped bushings, then just put 1 donut on each side of the change extension. If you notice, these pieces will then be pressed tightly together while tightened on the tranny mount, so there is ABSOLUTELY NO DOWNSIDE to cutting them, unless of course you mess up the bushing itself while cutting it. If you use a fine razor blade and take it right down the middle, it should be fine. But like I said, if the lube works out then do it that way. good luck man!

I did not have to cut or lube anything when installing my Energy Suspension shifter bushings. I just pressed em right in by hand, no problems.
The install went pretty smooth. ONly took about 1 hour from start to finsh, if that. The only problem I ran into was getting that round bushing in place. It was a bitch, I lubed it and then sprayed the area w/ wd-40. Very slick, lol. We couldn't get it in wiht our hands, but I then wrapped it in a dry rag and pushed it in. Popped in fine.
The shifting feels great now! Shifts up and down through the gears as crisp as possible...Never gets stuck or anything, and doenst' feel rubbery at all. Definately worth the $10.

www.inlinefour.com always has them in stock.
I don't know if anyone here has had problems with this, but I read that a lot of other people had major problems with increased vibration in the shifter near redline after installing the ES bushings. I didn't notice any difference from stock at all. I don't get any vibration at all. I did lube up the bushings really well too
