Default Will OBD II ECU advance or retard timing as necessary?

I need to get my car smogged. I am currently running a chipped P28 in my 99 Si with timing in the area of 18 (can't remember off hand). If I put my stock ECU back in will it take care of retarding timing back to stock or do I still need to adjust the distributer?

Thanks,

Cruzer

You have to adjust your 'base' timing via the distributor.

Your stock ecu may have a less agressive fuel/timing map, but you should still retard your timing via the distributor if you are worried about passing the smog test.

When I switched back and forth with the stock ecu and a chipped one the ignition timing stayed the same.

What are the steps for changing timing again?

I know I am supposed to short out the ECU, but I have forgotting exactly how to do it.

Thanks for the quick response!

Here is how to adjust your timing.

That link has info on how to jump the service connector, too.
