prob: my clutch or tranny?
I need help guys, i dont kno wat happened. Recently my 4th gear started to grind alot, even when i slowly engage it and press in the clutch then shift to the gear. Then jus tonite i was driving and my whole car stopped, jolted and stalled, going like 20mph. Its stuck in 3rd or 4th gear now and i cant get it out. I can move the stick (shifter) but the gear wont go out. I cant put it to 1st, 2nd, or reverse. I had to rev it high and slowly crawl the car home like 1 min away. I dunno wats wrong, did i blow my transmission? or is it my clutch. please help, im a college student low on funds and i need my car as my transportation.
I had a piece of my clutch disc break off and get stuck in another place on the clutch disc. So, basically that little piece was keeping the clutch from engaging and disengaging. It could be the clutch.
If you cant get it out of gear then it is definetly not the clutch, even if the clutch didn't disengage it still would come out of gear. If the syncros went bad they will not stick it in gear, at least on a b series tranny. My best guess would by you broke the shift rod selector or shift fork in the tranny and now the tranny doesn't respond to you moving the shifter in the car. You may have broken a piece off and it got jammed in one of the gears and maid your car jolt and stall.IMO
It is easily fixable if you know what you are doing and you didn't chip any of the gears when it stalled.

Not true, it just happened to me. The only time I could get it out of gear is when I would turn the car off and put it in first gear. I would drive in 1st and try to shift to second. I couldn't ever get the car out of first and into second. If the clutch wasn't fully disengaging, the car wouldn't come out of gear and the same way with it not fully engaging. Sometimes, the car would roll forward in 1st gear like an automatic because the clutch wasn't fully disengaging.

Your problem is not the tranny but is in the clutch. I guarantee you that part of your clutch broke off and jam somewhere. Same problem happen to me earlier.
