What kind of car or cluster are you running on your cable tranny? B-series? I have one for a B16 that includes the speedo cable and clip, Its yours for $75 shipped. Let me know.

hes got an obd1 harness wired to the crx
hes now running obd1 ecu and all.
the CEL throws a code 17...VSS
even by installing the cable drawn sensor..the ecu needs to know something correct?
i think it just may be a bad vss, because it is plugged in.
but the speedo still wont work unless he converts back to the cable speedo sensor.

stock cluster needs the cable VSS. The cluster sends the signal to the ECU. If you switch to electronic VSS, you need to use the SiR cluster or GSR cluster that reads the electronic VSS.

okay, i went to honda and bought the cable line for the stock crx, would it fit on the y1 tranny? it looks like it would but i dont wana open the bag to see it dosent.

Im still confused about this vss thing, someone please set it straight? is there a converter you can buy? are you forced to go either way just by the tranny being cable or hydro?

IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE TRANNY.. It only depends what gauge cluster you are using. The stock cluster in the 88-91 civics can only read speed through a cable operated vss. Some people opt for the SiR cluster, which uses the electronic vss that was already sitting in your y1 tranny. your car is set-up to run the cable, just take the cable vss out of your old tranny and it should work in the y1.

then your saying that the vss thats currently plugged in is bad, since the ecu is throwing code 17....the vss code

You're getting code 17 because your speedometer is not working...If you can get your 88-91 speedometer to work using a mechanical VSS from your old motor transferred to the Y1 tranny, you should be good to go...But if you decide to use an electronic run VSS, you need an SiR cluster.
