Ever since my VAFC reseted on me, do to my friends stupidity, my car has been back firing every time I let go of the throttle. Anybody ever have this problem, if so, please help. BTW, I'm running on comptec headers, and exhaust. Can it be possible that I'm running too rich?
I have backfire alot but I also run no cat and a 3in exhaust. Are you running a cat? If you are really rich that will cause you to backfire as well. Check your VAFC settings.

I don't have big back fire on my hatch, but I think it has to do with running rich and having not cat and a "strait-pipe". Better then running lean!

I forgot the setting on my VAFC. I had everything tuned correctly, until it reseted. The car was running just fine, and I had no previous problems. I guess I will have to set everything again on the VAFC. Note to others, don't ever let stupid people touch things that are too complicated for them to understand.
backfire scares the **** outta my friends who ride my car, they're like "WTF was that? your tire?"
joe-who chuckles everytime one of his friends shat's their pants from my backfire

Backfire occurs when the exhaust gasses leaving the engine are still rich in fuel where, upon high temperatures in the exhaust system, will ignite and cause combustion in the exhuast that shoots out the muffler.
As for good or bad, you are wasting gas and blowing up your exhaust from the inside out! You make the choice...
Oh yeah, back fires kick *** too!

backfire is a symptom of running rich. Check your fuel settings.
now and even before when i only had DC and spoon it still made "backfire" sound and now it's even worse... i dont actually see :fire:
i kind of like it
That's because your not backfiring. That is just the exhaust "popping".
I have a stock D15 motor with no breathing/exhaust mods done except for having no muffler and i get those popping sounds. I used to think that it was caused by not having a cat, a free/smooth flowing b-pipe and a straight through muffler would do that, but that doesnt seem to be the case...at least with my car. Maybe my cat is hollowed out after 10 years of use

Well, first of all, you had fuel problems with it before. When you had your AEM fuel rail on there with the FPR on there, it was fine. It was leaking though. You swapped it back to normal and after my cousin ( the one who destroys type R's ) got his hands on it, it started bogging and backfiring. We changed the spark plugs, it was a little better. Then we swapped out your Moroso Wires and that helped but it still did it on the decel. your VAFC settings haven't really been messed with unless my cousin messed with it. We reset the VAFC to the stock settings. I think you're running too rich on the VAFC settings. I doubt the weather is going bad but change the fuel settings so that its lower on the narrow throttle band and see how that goes. Tune it down a little bit and see how it runs. You have an Air-Fuel ratio meter on your car, put it to use Will. I have your VAFC manual and you said your friend was supposed to help you do it. Try and see what happens. I don't think it has anything to do with the hardware, its just the electronics.
