GSR brake swap? needed parts list?
hey... i wanna do a '98 GSR brake swap on a '88 CRX... i've read a dozen or so threads this morning on the subject... but i still have some questions...
i figure i can just unbolt the trailing arms, keep the lines on them and everything... and just bolt 'em up... hook 'em up and use them... but they'll feel weird with the current master cylinder... true?
Can i use the master cylinder from the GSR? Should I?
Next thing is the front... I figure i can just unbolt the knuckles, plug 'em in and go...
Am i wrong?
Next thing is the proportioning valve... Will i need one? Where should i get it?
thanks, any help is appreciated!

with the rear trailing arms you can use them as well as the lines, you will just have to changed out the e-brake cables coming form the interior of the car.
As far as the master cylinder goes, you can use one from a 91 civic ex, or 90-93 teg.
what are you getting the front brakes from?
lastly you will need a porp. valve. I beleive one from a 90-93 teg, or the 91 civic ex will work also.
hope thats help

Is it necessary to use the Civic master cylinder and porp. vakve? What if I have access to a wrecked GSR and can use all of the brake components including the master cylinder etc.
Do the front knuckles bolt right up to the CRX sus.?
Would there be any advantage to using any other sus. components? For instance, would the front sway bar work on the CRX? Rear?
Thanks in advance.

I'm trying it out... If anyone knows for sure that the GSR stuff won't work and that I'll die on the road because of my unsafe vehicle, please speak now... unless you want me to die as a casualty of research...
you need the 90-93 knuckes or the 90-91 ex knuckles..........you will have wayyy positive camber with the dc knuckles. Also you can you the booster and master cylinder but one of the hard brake lines will need to be reflared to fit and you will need a 40/40 prop. valve
Ok, so I ask for advice and cry about how I'm going to die... Maybe I should've waited 'til I saw a response before acting... Then again, I'm an impatient idiot. Anyway, I tried it out. This is what I got:
I need to mention that the engine is missing... I'd expect the sus. to drop a little more... I used to hae extremely negative camber though due to the lowered sus. Will I be OK with that? I'll get it aligned after it'a all done and let ya'll know what happened if anyone's interested.
Oh, and the offset on those 7" rims is 35... A little too far out I realize now. Oh, well, they cost me $100 w/tires, so I'm not going tp cry...

Yes. You need DA Integra or '90-91 Civic EX knuckles. The DC knuckles do not have the proper geometry (obviously).
BTW, you have an '83-87 Corolla GT-S and an '88-91 CRX . . . that rocks.
IMHO, the greatest '80s FR and FF sport compacts, respectively.

Thanks for the input and the compliments! I'll go get the right knuckles. Where's the best place to get them? Do the local yards in your area totally jack up any Honda parts? (mine do...)

I wish I didn't have to say it, but the GTS belongs to my friend. Can you believe he bought it for $200?! It had been sitting in a church parking lot for a couple weeks. He called the cops to see if it was registered etc. The cops left a ticket and he left a message under the ticket with his number if the guy wanted to sell it... Lucky bastard! It has factory LSD too...

So are the DA Integra and the '90-91 EX brakes the same as the GSR? Are the GSR rear discs bigger than the CRX's?

They all use the same 10.3" front rotor. DA Integra and '90-91 EX calipers are the same, while DC (non-R) Integra calipers are slightly different. I believe the DC piston is larger, and it takes a different pad (617) vs. the other two (409).

No. The rotors are identical. They also take the same pad (374).
