Im posting this for a friend...for some reason the car wont start. he siad it was making some weird sound on the tranny side before it completely went out. we did a compression test and still seems fairly good. it sounds like it wants to crank but wont actually turn over. we pulled off the distributor and it seemed to be locked up so we replaced it with a new one...even the rotor and cap. we pulled the plugs and tested for spark. it is getting spark and fuel but just wont turn over. any one have any suggestions??? please post if you know what might be going on...

did it run before? IS the starter any good? Have you tried push starting it?

We need some info........

Year CRX
What LS engine year
What ecu ?
ECU codes ?
Did you do something before it won't start ?
Is the replacement distributor exactly the same ?

Cam timing ok ?, if compression is ok.... I would assume ths is close

 

91 CRX SI, 91 LS motor and ecu, NO codes, didnt even touch the motor before it happened, the replacement distributor is exactly the same because its the same one that i got for my LS CRX. the compression was around 150 all they way across, not sure about the timing but it should still start shouldnt it??? i mean even if it was off a bit it would probably start just run like crap. well let me know if any of this info might help...thanx

 

Ok.. lets start all over.....

1 you have compression (which means its turning over at a decent speed)
2 you have not codes...

-does the main relay work\ >? I would say yes, you said you had fuel etc....

-does the check engine light come on when you turn it to ignition ?
-does the ecu flash once when you turn the ignition on ?
-you said you had spark... you must have verified this from a plug wire, is it good and strong ?
-fuel you verified this from the fuel filter ?

-pull plugs inspect that the engine isn't flooded...
-verify your ecu ground at the thermostat housing is good (very important)

-not sure which ones the main relay but it is getting fuel and spark

-the ecu is on because it does flash when key is turned to ON position
-not sure how stong the wires are but it is getting spark because we tested that

-not sure what condition the fuel filter is in but im sure it would still start even if it was bad...maybe would just run like crap or die out

-we pulled the plugs and it is getting fuel...im really not sure if it is flooded (not to be stupid or anything like that but how can u determine that???)

-im pretty sure the thermostat ground is good because i remember having that same problem with my other swap (ive experienced that being loose)

if theres anything that might help then jsut post...ill do the best i can to answer...i check pretty often

 

no check engine light ? does it come on at all when you first turn the key to ignition >?

flooded engine the plugs would be soaked in gas, wet...

main relay is located on the drivers side kick panel area, makes a clicking noise when you first turn the key one. Then couple secconds later clicks again (this is the fuel pump prime circuit)

Only other suggestion I have is to hold the throttle wide open and crank the engine.

Other then that I would suggest getting something so you can see if the injectors are working, I have these special noid lights that just plug it..... can't remember if a normal test light will work.

You can always hold a long skinny screw driver on it and put the handle to your ear and listen for the clicking noise.

By what you have told me the car should start.
Only other then... if you have fuel, spark, compression, is excessive back pressure, plugged cat.....
