Default forged piston daily drivers- looking for opinions on cylinder wear and oil loss.

to those with forged pistons in their daily drivers, do you consume much oil, and have you seen your cylinder walls since putting the pistons in? are your cylinder walls worn in any way, from the looser tolerances that are present when the motor is first started? (piston to cylinder wall tolerance as compared to a stock cast piston with tighter tolerance.) thanks for your time.

When I had my EF with the B18c and Jackson @ 13psi. All I had done was rods and pistons and I drove that thing to school everyday. I put about 500 miles a week on that car. Boosted all the time. Drove it very hard. When I yanked the engine to get it sleeved, the walls were perfect. They had zero scaring. Didnt burn any oil.

Numbers were great. I was very precise with the tolerances in the bearings and filing the rings.

Why would the tolerences be any worse with aftermarket pistons when compared to stock? They should be the same if not better then the stock tolerences.

Normally on most forged pistons, the piston to cylinder wall clearance is ran alittle larger. On mine, the clearances were larger because of the fact that I was under boost, normally around 3 or 3.5 thou.

You don't even want to know how much oil I'm burning. JE pistons on a sleeved block. I haven't seen the block since the build. 20K miles on the motor and it started to burn about 7K miles ago. The block's previous owner had JE pistons too. He said it didn't burn oil but he did have scarring on the sleeves. I'm going to do a leak down then if need be, [cross fingers] rebuild [/cross fingers].

aftermarket pistons are forged, not cast like the stock ones. forged pistons are softer, more malleable. they expand more when heated. this is what gives them their strength.
