"Non-OEM tubing in front of firewall prohibited except to tie shock towers to to roll cage" scares m
I searched "chassis," no luck.
This is in section 4:Chassis of the Hot Rod rules from NHRA
Does this prohibit shock-tower-forward tubing that's present in most all of the Hot Rod cars I've seen so far? Like the tubing in place of a front crossmember.
I'm sure there's something I'm missing, but what is it?

Page 42 (eff 01/16/03)
Body: Third paragraph, first sentence, change "full unibody structure forward of firewall" to "full unibody structure from firewall to front of strut tower". >>> this is the revision..... here it is in context.
<<
OEM shell (roof panel,A-pillars,rocker panels, rocker boxes, quarterpanels, firewall floorpan,A-pillars, and full unibody structure from firewall to front of strut tower) must be retained, with original wheel well>>> blah blah.....
the *problem* is: this is section 7 "body" - on page 42, *not* page 41.
this revision is only telling people *what sheet metal they can cut out of the car* - for the few that had'nt already.
The original question was concerning section 4: "Chassis", which is on page 41.
"Non-OEM tubing in front of firewall prohibited except to tie shock towers to roll cage"....... notice how they do *not* say "welded in front cross member allowed", and it is pretty grey how they do not deal with the fact that 85% of the cars have the tubing extend past the towers all the way to the front bulkhead.
p.s. I am not bitching nor would I ever protest anyones car, I just dont wanna travel half way across the country and be told i cannot race..... I just want it cleared up.

We ran the pro power hvc coils, but the blaster ss should be fine at 16 volts as well.
As for the tubing... Basically NHRA is realizing that these cars need more structural support up front with as fast as they are running. They are allowing tubing up front. If it's anything questionable then you need to contact Jim Skelly about it. You should be able to find an email for him on the nhra site, or I think he's "old guy" on here.
edit: "old guy"

well the NHRA doesnt follow their own rules very well either. last yr joel mandl was runnin a NON OEM firewall, non OEM placement of engine which directly breaks the rules in the all motor class. but since joel has easily over 100k into that car hes allowed to race anyways. so u tell me, what the hell r the rules for in the first place???
I think in the all motor class last year you could be either back halved or front halved with a 75lb weight penalty. I think....
tony... you think you know it all man. sheesh your the reason kenny ran a 8.59... but hey have you ever thought of driving the car... man that thing could have gone a 8.29 with you behind the wheel.... hahahah...
Maybe when we build a pro car i'll get to drive this one. Wishfull thinking anyways...
