Default GS-R is going into boost this weekend, take out the ctr intake cam?

I am installing a Drag turbo kit on a completely stock GS-R this weekend. The owner has a CTR intake cam, stock GS-r exhaust cam, Jg throttle body, Skunk 2 intake manifold, and AEM cam gears. VAFC, 440's and an Inline Pro headgasket are going on as well. Should I take this cam out considering the amount of duration it has, or leave it in? Has anyone tried this before with sucess? I would replace it with the stock GS-R intake cam. The car is going straight from the shop to the dyno when we are done. Thanks

I am running a B16B intake cam with a stock B16A exhaust cam. I never changed it back from my NA days. I am curious as well.

yeah, the guy is a close friend so we are curious as to what will happen. I read somewhere that too much duration is no good for turbo but hell, why not try it?

maybe you should try your ctr intake camshaft that should put more air into the combustion chamber and keep the exaust gsr camshaft for less overlapp.
try this whit a dyno session then swap out your ctr whit your gsr intake camshaft and compare

I read that the 8 second unibody Acura(forgot his name) was running the ITR cams and he ran 8's. CTR has more overlap however meaning the boost will exit right out the exhaust. Try each way and see, Maybe dyno with each cam installed.

Lots of other Turbocharged vehicles are running the factory OEM camshafts with their setups.

I believe the 8sec. uni-body would be Kenny Tran. Correct me if I'm wrong please.

I have discussed the cam with the guy who owns the car and we agreed to leave it in, see what hp#'s we come up with. It won't hurt to try, we might even switch it there if we have the time. I just have'nt seen enough info on this, even after searching so I want to see!!

i'm running JDM B18C-R spec98 cams (in & ex) on my teg.. haven't had it tuned yet, but wondering if I could make more power by dialing out the overlap with my cam gears, or if I should swap these cams with the 1st gen B16A cams from my civic.

MOTORMATRIX.COM: I figured it was him because being the fastest uni-body, and in the eight's if I not mistaken here. What kind of compression are you running?

I'd think with the more aggressive intake cam you'd get better boost responsiveness. You know that dedicated turbo cams have larger lobes on the intake side than the exhaust. If you're able to dial out the overlap as much as possible you should make some nice numbers.

Here are a few other uni-body's in the 8's
Lance HoLung
'92 Honda Civic
8.597 160.74

Kenny Tran
'92 Honda Civic
8.666 140.47

Bruce Mortensen
'00 Civic
8.782 164.62

Marty Ladwig
'03 Sunfire
8.916 154.53

JoJo Callos
'01 Acura
9.011 157.59

Gary Gardella
Honda Civic
9.099 166.94

I was here when Kenny Tran hit 8.666 140.47. . If he wouldn't of hit his parachute early, who knows what he would have run.

I doubt marty or lance are running GSR or Type R cams.

Although, with the 3 degress of extra duration over an ITR intake cam, I think there may be TOO much overlap that can be dialed out with the cam gears. Correct me if I am wrong...

I have read many times on this board that ITR/CTR cams can make great power on a boosted setup, but they have to be tuned or they could be detrimental. Good luck...

If I were you I would dyno with the GSR intake and pull some runs with the CTR intake, that way you have proof that one makes more power over the other.

Unfortunately it wasn't only the chute that slowed the run, the boost limit on the motec shut the motor down. It ran way more boost than we expected. Would've been and 8.47 or 8.48 according to the rest of the pass. Either way, that was with gsr cams, but we're having some custom cams made right now. When they're finished and tested, we will be producing and selling them. They will be for high hp turbo cars. The gsr cams work good, but there is alot of power to be had from a better set. I'll keep you guys informed when we get them finished.
