Hey, I just yanked in my tranny case last week, I tried it and I found the reverse gear really really hard to come in,
there is no oil in the trany, will it help to get some in just to try it, I dont want to poor full level oil in it because if I have to pop the case again, it will be full of oil.
give me your input about this, any help is greatly appreciated,
see ya

yeah reverse is always a little harder than the other gears when the tranny is dry. maybe the lack of syncros is part of it???

Yhea thumpu, I looked really carfully when I put it in, to make shure it's the right way, I used this scheme,
Breaka, I'm 99.9% shure there is no sincro in the reverse gear, maybe you mean that it's hard to come in because of that ??? I'm not shure however,
anyway,
keep me up on this !

i think reverse is really hard to get into without fluid and with out a shifter hooked up because:
1.no synchro (like breaka said)
2.you're moving a lot more mass than shifting into any other gear
3.you're working through more linkages than any other gear

Why will it never be the same, usually when a tranny had the main shaft bearing grenaded, both diff bearings grenaded, and a synchro in 5 peices with the synchro spring running down the oil plug, once it have been open, I'm pretty shure it will go better. if it have been take apart and remounted carefully, I don't think it will be worst.

thumpu o my god.
i pulled my grenaded trani apart like that and tried to put it back toghther for fun with no manual.. its nearly impossible
i really despise the springs and ball bearings that come flying out.

yeah, I unmounted the fork assembly, it was a pain in the *** to put all the part back in the right place, all the ball and springs flying everywhere, OMG, I was desesperate. Opefully I found the scheme I posted before and the show the place of each ball and spring, even the little rod that goes in one of the spring, really helpfull. If anybody need it, tell me I got the link to the 100% sized pics.

ok so i priced out some bearings at honda today.. not bad..
diff bearing were 31.25 x2
main shaft bearing is 22.16
thats CANADIAN
i might have to do the 2 top bearings also on the mainshaft i dont know yet i guess i will find out when i rip it apart.
so 84.66 CDN
55.62 USD.

i am haveing the same problem...i rebuild mine and put a new main input shaft bearing in and now when i try to get it in reverse it is hard as hell....no the gear isnt upside down and yes there is tranny fluid in it...it dose drive great in the forward gears but u have to be pretty strong to get it in reverse....no weird nosies...so i am just going to mess with it someother time...and mabey work out my shifter arm...lol
Make friends with a local tranny shop!
When I rebuilt my tranny, I got a rebuild kit that had all new bearings, all new seals, and all new syncros for about $170. that was the tranny shop's cost, and they ordered the parts from some outfit in WA state. They don't have the Honda brand name on them, but they are exact replicas. (Honda probably doesn't manufacture their own bearings anyway)

So you said you got problem to pull in revers due to the new main shaft bearing, the fact is that my main shaft bearing jamed on the main shaft, so it turned down the casing and make a slot, I have die grinded the slot down to perfec surface to lay down the bearing and then, replace the grenaded part and, like you said it goes pretty well in forward but reverse is like welded in place!!, I don't know but i may use the shifter rod to test it out before I do any mod about it !!,
anyway, you said you are able to put it in reverse??
that's all I want, jejejejeje !!
