Default 3rd gear scratches

well i think my synchro is going out. my 3rd gear scratches when shifting into it but only above 3000 rpms. i dont have a tach so i dont know the exact rpm but prolly anything higher than 3-4k scratches. someone told me that some new transmission oil could help this. anyone have any suggestions. should i change the tranny oil, if so what kind, or do i have to get a new tranny

just replaced the tranny in my 92 si with the same 3rd gear woes. Has 183k miles on it so not a bad run i guess.

ok, so i searched for the synchromesh and it seems that the friction modified is the way to go. but also i saw that penzoil makes one. which do you think would be better

according to mista bone - the best guy with credible tranny info around here - your synchro is fine. your engine is shaking around at the higher rpms, and the shift linkage doesn't get it into gear properly, because the tranny isn't where it should be. try replacing your motor and transmission mounts, or get polyurethane inserts all around.

Id go with the GM synchromesh, but try the Penzoil. It's like 6 bucks a quart, and it takes 2...so its 12 bucks if it does'nt fix it.
