Timing with Kenji Chipped ECUs

Default Timing with Kenji Chipped ECUs

Kenji, or anyone with a Kenji chipped ECU, do you set your timing at 16 or 18 deg.? I have a b18c1 with Kenji ECu and Skunk 2 manifold and I was curious as to whether I have to back my timing down to 16 when installing the Kenji ECU. Anyone have experience or dynos on timing adjustment with chipped ECus.?

ususally when running race type programs put your timing at the lower end of the stock settings. i have done few dynos with different setting any time I adjust the timing to more then stock loss of power was seen

a change from 16 to 20 degrees and running a skunk2 program I went from 173whp to 158whp. just by going 4 degrees , this should tell you enough as important tuning is.

Thanks man, I was thinking the same thing. I had a built SE-R with a Wolf ECU, on a lapping session at the local race track I hit 115 or so with the Wolf ECU and bumped timing, I set the timing back to stock and was hitting 125+ on the same straight, no other line changes etc. I suspected the Honda programs would do the same thing.

i agree man i have a 94 jdm gsr motor running the skunk 2 manifold ctr cams dc jdm 4-1 header with chipped p28 (vision specs=5700 rpm vtec) once installed my chipped p28 i rechecked my igntion timing and it was set back 2 degrees from stock. orginally at 16 drops to 14. so all i did was advance my distributor 2 more degrees and baam im back to stock timing also your right advancing igntion timing past stock tends to lack power. seriously so stock or close to stock igntion timing is best for mild setups. cam gears is what you should consider getting. more adjustablity= which in most cases more power (if tuned right that of course

Need to hit the dyno and try it because I had Kenji's ecu and I made more power by advancing it from 18 to 22.

how do you know you made more power, quarter mile times etc.? Anyone here know Kenji's email for a response from the man himself.?
