How Do You Ship Rims?
I have a question. I recently sold my rims to another member and have to ship them to the East Coast. Problem is, I don't have the original boxes, and they wouldn't fit anyway because the tires are on them as well. Any suggestions on how the safest way to ship them would be ? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
If you want to pay a little more. You can take them to Boxes Etc. and they'll pack 'em for you.
When I bought rims in the past, TireRack used to put a cardboard cover over just the front and rear face of the rims,a nd used heavy-duty ties to hold the cardboard in place. I don't know if this is sufficient coverage though.
when i shipped my rims, i wrapped each one like a **** with seal wrap (the cooking clear wrap) and i attached cardboard on each side of the rims. Then, i put that mug in a box and sent each of them seperately, but in same method. I was able to get the box from a local office depot. Hope that helps. It worked perfectly for me.
Ok.. great! Thanks... I wish I didn't have to ship out 18's... I'm going to sell only 12" hubcaps from now on..
I just don't want to send this guy some bruised rims or something. That would suck. Thanks for the help!!! I'll have to go hunt down boxes.

hahaha 12" hubcabs will work too but
Anyways, make sure when you wrap with with the clear wrap, u make lots of layers so a little bit of cushion will exist. After you attach the cardboard to protect the sides of the rims, tie them around the entire tire. (haha that sounded kinda funny.....enTIRE TIRE.)

well, ebay says this (which isn't much): "Apply a wide band of pressure-sensitive tape through the center and completely around the body of the tire so that the tape is attached to itself. Attach address label to the tape band where it covers the tread, and cover with clear tape."
and from personal receiving experience, when my bf had wheels/tires shipped to him from someone thru ebay they used two u-haul boxes. two wheels fit in each (pretty snugly) with old tshirts stuffed between to preserve the rims.
when tirerack.com shipped my wheels/tires they had all four stacked with a couple of tire-size cardboard circle inserts inbetween each, and on top/bottom with that plastic banding around it all.
i'd call UPS and see if they can give you any pointers over the phone.

I work for fed ex and i have seen alot of diffrent ways that tires are shipped. some people dont use anything and just put the label on the tire it self. Some people will stack all 4 tires together and use clear industrial shrink wrap and bundel them together. ( that depends how heady each tire is) if it ways to much then they will shipp them on a pallet and shrink wrap it to the wooden pallet just ask the shipping company to help you. they will. call customer service. fedex is 1-800-go-fedex.
AH...I'll have to check FedEx as well... I'm not worried about the tires, it's the rims itself that I want to protect, so I'll make sure that I get going on this. Doesn't help that the weather is freezing outside either... It's nuts.. When the high's are in the teens, that's my cue to stay the hell in.
I shipped two sets of rims this month alone..
the cheapest way is to put two together..
much cheaper than one by one.
about 25-each(20lbs) compare to 32(40 lbs)

hmm.. i'm getting it, but i'm not getting it.
so, you ship two at a time in a box? or just connect two rims together with protection and ship.
i don't have a box to put them in. no boxes that big are available (maybe office max has some?).

Thanks to all that helped me out with my shipping endeavors. I sent off 4 rims (each weighing 49lbs). Cost: $98. Not bad.. a creativitiy (+ lots of cardboard, foam, and bubble wrap), and off it went.
Thanks again to all!!
