There is some truth to this. If you shift fast, the overall movement in the transmission is also changing ratios faster. When you do this, the synchros are forced to work harder to get the input shaft up to speed faster. Over time, this WILL cause failure.

Solution: Use the short throw as simply a convenience feature. Don't rely on it to shorten the time between ratios in a shift.

prelude synchro's are notorious for going bad, especially 3rd gear.

yeah, 5th gear is the worst on the 5th gen. although ALL honda manual trannys are notorius for 3rd gear syncro going bad

does this same theory apply to short throw shifters? (not an adapter) i.e.4bidden motorsports shifter

any short shifter will allow you to throw it in gear quicker, whichs means you're hitting the syncro's that much sooner

5th gear on 4th and 5th gen manual transmissions acts up not because the syncros go bad but because honda designed a weak arm inside the transmission that works 5th gear, it bends it you abuse it too much, i had it happen to my car before i got it and i had the pleasure of replacing the transmission b/c of it.

I had mine syncro work on about 4th month ago... it had been going bad a few times before but I manage to get it working just by keep driving it it would settle in place pack again but the last time it wasn't going no where so i had to take it to the dealership and they try to say that since I had modify my car (teins)they might not cover it... bastards... I still had it fix since that suspension dind't have to do jack with the syncro gone bad.... at the end they told me it was some kind of solenoid not sure since I didn't pick up my car but my wife did.....

no, they are saying that if you shift too fast with or without a short throw, you will wear your syncros.
