Default 4th Gen VTEC Turbo?

I have a 96 Prelude VTEC with 60000 miles. I have been trying to decide between NA or FI. But my biggest dilemna is FI. Is the H22A1 a good format for turbo? Or am I looking at putting a ton of money into the motor just to get ready for turbo?

And yes I did a search and ended up with no answer.

You're probably going to get a lot of opinions on this one, but here's mine anyway... I've got the same exact year and engine w/ 100k miles on it. I've got the FMAX kit (Turbonetics T3/T4) and it's done me good. Yes, I paid a pretty penny for it but like people say you get what you pay for. I've dynoed it once and got some pretty impressive numbers (273hp w/ 232 ft lbs of torque @11psi). That was with the two additional Lucas 440cc injectors on. I've rebuilt my turbo and motor since then. Now I'm currently running between 8 and 9 psi on STOCK internals. The only thing I did to the motor was: Put oversized stock pistons in, and a cometic headgasket (i believe it's .53mm). I runs good with stock internals...Less lag. Now, i do think that if you want to run more than 9 psi daily then I would say resleeve and get some forged pistons. Good luck!

Oh, and if you're wondering if VTEC will give you a little extra kick with a turbo...it won't. You'll never feel when VTEC kicks in with FI.

h22 is a good turbo motor.. only thing is it doesnt like over 8-9 psi boost stock.. thats due to the ringlands on the pistons... other than that go for it.. i did..
250whp 222tq at 7psi...H23 that is

I've heard the ringlands are prone to failure in H22's when boosted, but is it the same for H23's? I've never actually heard of an H23 breaking a land

Very true about the ringlands. My pistons were cracked as well as the ringlands before the motor was rebuilt. But then again that was @ 20+ lbs. of boost. (sucks when the vacuum hose to your wastegate melts and you have no other way to control boost.)
