Default oil pan gasket pinched?

I am rebuilding my motor. and now to the oil pan gasket. The easiest part yet. But why IN THE HECK does the gasket pinch and get all deformed? Is this bad? Is it supposed to pertrude out all around the bolt areas? Some are more extreme than others? Did it not seat properly? I used hondabond all around it.

Any tips? Or just reason for this pertruding gasket. I'm doing 12Nm all around. Is this bad? Or normal? I am going to clean the area and retry it. But geeeez easiest thing turned into a big headache.

the only tip I can give is that next time, purchase the ARP pan studs. They'll have the pan perfectly aligned with the block by the time the gasket seats.

u can just use gasket sealant all the way around the pan before you put it on. works just as good. i thought the gasket looked like a rubber line that sits flush almost with the pan.

OK. all i did was use hondabond all the way around. And hand tightened till it started slightly pertruding out. and stopped. Its not to torque specs though. Which i kinda wanted. Hopefully bolts wont jus rattle off.

Honda puts the oil pan gasket on dry, no Hondabond. It works better that way. Gasket squishes out if you use Hondabond, as you have discovered.

I use hondabond on my gaskets, and it doesnt do that.

make sure you use a new gasket cause an old one would do that.
