Default Oil Pan Replacement: Liquid Gasket Placement?

Im about to bolt up my replacement oil pan and I have a question about the liquid gasket maker (HondaBond). I have to put it on the matted surface side of the oil pan but i dont know if I should fill the groove in the oil pan then lay the regular gasket over it or if I should just place the gasket in the grooves and then lay the liquid gasket (hondabond) on top of it?
