bad msd coil??
just started doing this yesterday. driving at low rpm the car just falls on its face and almost dies. then i hold down on the gas pretty far and it comes back. seems like im losing spark for a second or two at a time.
the coil is almost 3 years old. its a msd blaster coil, also i have 6al, and msd cap.
by the way its a b16, drag 3 turbo kit.
12000 miles on motor and this is first problem like this
anyone had problems like this.
-bad coil/distributor?
-bad gas(my light is on, water in tank?)
any help appreciated.

yeah i got the same problem and so does my friend
my car D16y7 with Msd6al Msd cap and external coil
friends car Gsr with Msd Cap and external coil

Does your car sort of bog down, like the clutch is slipping, then rev up fine. Because mine does that sometimes as well. I was thinking it was the clutch, but I see 2 other people with similar problems. It sometimes does it on the highway when I press on the gas.
its always with light throttle with me, and it just feels like its missing, but i have changed spark plugs, checked timming, changed gas...no change...
my car will actually slow down...if i leave it at that throttle pressure....its almost like it stops but i havent let it go that far....if i let of the gas and press it again i can get it to work through it, it usually never does it above 3,000rpm, and never at full throttle

have you checked your wiring that could be the cause of it. also you may want to think about changing the rotor inside of your cap,
with all the ignition mods and the turbo upgrade you'll find that your stock rotor will wear quickly.

The best thing for you to do at this point is to test the coils resistances and see if it is within spec. If your even half decent with a multimeter you can do this cause the coil is external.

well its been a week or so. the problem happened again this morning.
when i got to my parking spot at work it started acting up so i let the car idle and held a constant RPM of 2000. it would hold smooth for around 5 seconds at a time then all the sudden the rpms would fall as if i had shut the car off. then right before the car died it would just come back to life and it repeated this process for a couple of minutes. When the car would stutter its not a light miss, its as if all cylinders pause and die out. My a/f guage during this was at constant full rich, which is not ordinary. also the volt meter and boost guage both acted funny as well. the voltmeter would drop to around 12 volts and the boost guage would start moving from -22 to 0, just like if im shutting the car off.
any ideas guys. i do have my inline pump under the hood and its just right before the fuel rail so maybe the is too much pressure at idle but its been like that for 6 months and just recently ive had problems. it is very cold and snowy here in ohio,.

Just a stab in hte dark, but have you checked fuel pressure? It will spike as the RPMs drop to idle due to the bypass hole. Maybe the spike is getting it back up to good pressure? Just a thought.
no i dont have a fuel pressure guage so i havent checked it yet. but if anything, i think there is too much fuel pressure instead of too little.
what kind of numbers would i be looking for on my coil if i check resistences.
also how would i check for this electrical ground that you speak of.
thanks for the ideas guys. CHRIS

i have checked my fuel pressure and it isnt an issue i have changed it a few times thinking it would go away but it didn't...
the grond thing was somthing i was thinking but my wire harness is stock and the engine that is in the car is for that harness so there is no extra stuff

Ever think of replacing your igniter? My igniter started going bad, causing a miss at part throttle between 3000 and 4000rpm. It only happened between those points and only if I held between those points for any period of time. Was also getting Tach-spikes which, for me, confirmed it was the igniter. Every Honda I've had that started showing Tach-spikes was fixed by replacing the igniter.
this could be your distributor because i know that was the prob. on mine. i havent fixed it yet, but if you start the car and just drive you will feel it, my best sol. would be start the car and let it warm up for a min, always worked for me.
something similar happened to me. my car started to idle very rough, and then it stopped like i turned the key. the only difference is mine wouldnt start again, and i had no spark. i replaced teh blaster ss coil, rotor, ignitor, and plugs with no results. then i decided to send the msd box (sci-l) back to msd. they sent me a brand new one in 14 days. i plugged everything in and it started right up.
so i would send the box back to msd (call them first) and see what they say. i lost my receipt, but i told the guy on the phone when i bought it and he said they were pretty lax on their warranty policy and to send it in anyways.
if you can be without your car for 14 days you should send it in.
