If its already popping, ticking, knocking, making noise in general its to late you have to get an AXLE a boot wont fix the noise now!!

Mine lasted 3000 miles like that. It started to sound really bad so I decided to change it. Doing it tomorrow.

My passenger side axle is slinging a little grease. I cant find out where its coming from though, it seems to be in tact. I guess i'll take out the axle and examine it closer. Its been re-booted before.

I've been driving my car on clicking axles for god knows how long. I'd guess probably about 6000 miles if not more.

Mine clicked on my VX for over 2 years. I waited to replace them when I decided it was time to do the B18C1 swap.

Well all i can say is that all you guys are driving on borrowed time!! Why chance it? That not really something that i would want in my mind at 100 + on a mountain road, or rush hour traffic. IMO

My VX wouldn't do 100+ on a mountain road unless I drove off the side of a cliff.

Does anybody know how difficult it is just to replace a cv boot and not the whole axle? Mine just started spewing grease out, not sure how long its been doing this for though?

It isn't very hard, but its time consuming. If your outer boot is torn, you still have to remove the inner boot to gain access to the outer boot. Its messy as hell but if your axles aren't knocking just the boots can be replace. IMO 60 bucks and a lifetime warrantee at autozone is the way to go.

i think you should get them fixed right away. both of my axles started to click and i took it forgranted. both of them gave away. i couldnt steer left or right. and right after i shut of my car. my car would not go anywhere. its better you fix it now then suffer later on.

Just fix it. Today I changed the axle, transmission fluid, ball joint boot. All that took about an hour, so it's not time consuming. Better safe than sorry.

i dont agree, yes you can do it that way, BUT, cutting off the the ripped outside boot, (if that is the one the is ripped) once its off, you can knock off the outter joint. but i would only advise this if you know what your doing. But just wanted to give another way to do it.

I replaced both axles for $144. Its not that expensive, just do them both.
