DIY K&N : AWWW F$#@!!!!!
So lets see.. I had a major tune up (valve adjustments, etc) done at a garage, and my B18B I had found to run significantly stronger than before.. (Yes, it was running a bit crappy previously), and oddly, i found that it growled it bit louder.
So after a WEEK of driving around, I decided to pop open my airbox to check it out, as I had this bad feeling lingering around.. (note: trust your feelings)
I notice the screws to the lid were torqued pretty tight.. ok, whatever.. but upon opening up the lid I found my k&n sitting disconnected!!! Examining it a bit closer, the lip of the filter adaptor to which the filter had attatched to snapped right off!!! It looks as if whoever dicked around w/ my filter had probably overtighted the hoseclamp that supported it, snapping it off!
Examining the cracked piece that came off, it looks as if a piece of plastic the size of an inch or so may have become separated. So essentially my main question is this --
If a small piece of plastic got sucked into the TB, is it possible to have not noticed it after driving around for a week? And what is the worse damage that it can do??
some horror pics beelow
(just to note -- the intake adaptor came off of an aftermarket oem style air filter. That POS separated while I was installing it, leaving me w/ a pretty clean adaptor which i used for my K&N )

maybe it's time to put a short ram or cai ?? so then you can see the filter ?? just an opinion... sucks that it had to happen ... good luck on whatever you decide to do ...

I will not be doin the DIY K&N, thanks
I've heard lots of problem with the DIY K&N filter that's why I got the drop in instead.
so for the DIY K&N, do you just hose clamp the K&N or do you glue it to the plastic piece (that you would remove from a stock, paper element teg filter) that feeds into the intake arm?

I wouldn't worry that much about it. Next time, do your own work.
