clutch wont engage
i just got done rebuilding my tranny and when i got every thing in the clutch wont engage. when u hit the clutch pedal it goes to floor too easily then stays there. the clutch cable wont adjust till it is tight...it just pulls the lever for the throw out bearing...i pulled the tranny and the bearing looks fine and moves fine...it just seems that is not engageing the clutch?!?!
i have a almost new clutch masters stage1
si tranny
the cable is not broken either..

Ok, let me ask a few dumb questions...you had this same clutch in before and it worked with the same throw out bearing - right?
The mating faces of the tranny and motor are flush to each other after you bolted the tranny to the motor?
When you put the throw out bearing on, you attached the return springs that are on the snout that the input shaft comes out of?
When you re-attached the clutch cable, the sheath is retained by the bracket on the outside of the tranny?
Can you take a picture of the throw out bearing in the closed and released position and post it?
Sorry for all the Q's - but I guess we will make some progress, even if it is only to find out what it is not.

aight let me ask u this, when the car is on it wont let you go into gear but it goes into gear when its off, correct??
if yes then try adjusting the cable and let us know what happens, if that doesnt work then it prolly the clutch and the press plate.

k i have had the tranny out and in like 5 times...every time the same thing....do u think b/c i dont have the pressure plate torqued the fingers arent in the right spot mabey to far back causeing it not to engage?
yes the car ran b4 i took the tranny out...
the relese bearing is just fine it goes all the way out and all the way in....
thanks for the help so far...i am sure it is something stupid and it will be a simple fix...

to me is sounds like the pressure plate is fuct. i broke mine. mt throwout berring spring poped off on one side. i had to drive it like this fora week. pressure plate wont enguage for ****. been that way since october. it blows.... awaiting me new flywheel and clutch
Man, I just got done pulling my ******* tranny(10 mins ago) for this EXACT reason. Same conditions, etc. Tried the new cable a while back, no luck. SO few minutes ago i replaced the throw out bearing and throw out bearing fork and tried it. it will go into 2, 3, 4, 5, r, gears but no first. the cable wasnt even tigtened down all the way. so we tigtened some more and my dumb *** friends put in the battery backwards!!!!!
so that blew a fuse. i really think its fixed, but i'm not sure. basically the throw out bearing fork was bent due to how stiff the clutch was. if what we just did doesnt fix it, its time for a new press. plate. I think we have it though. I'll post here tommorow once i know for sure. good luck bro.

When you say you don't have the pressure plate "torqued down", is the mating face of the pressure plate at least touching the mating face of the flywheel?

i dont think it is the pressure plate because the clutch is like brandnew like 500miles on it....
say it is bad how would i be able to tell...to me it looks good and so dose the throwout bearing and fork
yea the pressure plate is hitting the flywheel....but the tighter u pull it the further the fingers are pulled in...

oh and i did find out that my old pilot bearing was crushed but i think that was from all the vibration of the maininput shaft being shot...
so i just put a new one of those in....i havent had time the put the tranny back in...but do u think that could of caused this problem.....

If the pressure plate is not fully clamped, then the fingers are not in the correct position for the throw out bearing and cable to be adjusted...
I know, you probably already checked, but the new throw out bearing is identical in length and diameter as the old one?

In response to my last post in this thread:
It worked! I'm now able to shift gears REALLY smoothly. its soo amazing. put the new throw out bearing fork in and new cable in. messed with the cable, tightened it down more and BAM! shifts beautifully. could be your pressure plate is fucked, and thats what i thought was wrong with mine, but it was just that fork was bent. only thing is, my speedo doesnt work now. i think we broke the sensor

for ur speedo just have some one push down on it and reverse very slow..it will pop in....
was it noticible that ur fork was bent....b/c i have no way to tell if mine is really bent because i dont have a nother one to look at....
i am haveing a hard time beliving that a clutch with 500 miles on it is bad...

As for the fork, I could barley notice it was bent. we put the old one and new one next to eachother and you could tell, but its pretty discrete. not a very expensive part, and easy as hell to put in. let me know if you have any questions. again this may not be whats wrong with yours, but thats what was wrong w/ mine.
i know i havent ran it yet....because it wont engage.....i think the fork could be bent..
but as for the speed o crap....there is a cable that goes in to a gear type of thing... u have to have some one push down on the cable and u put it in reverse and back up slowly and it will pop in.... i have to do i to mine every time i take it out(hope this helps)
