Default Speedo

About a month ago my speedometer starting acting up. I would start driving and it would be fine. But in about two minutes the speedo would drop down to zero and then it would go back to the correct speed. Now the speedometer pulses and about 10mph off my speed. I understand that information is sent to the speedo through the VSS. (vehical speed sensor). I know I need to check the VSS, and am almost certain that this is the problem. But before I go checking and order the part I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this problem. If so what other things might I check?

That would most likely be your problem unless you do a lot of mind altering drugs.

The speedo heads tend to crap out on those. A bad VSS will put on the CEL with a code 17.
