Default Major Oil Leak!!! HELP!!!

I just got a used 96 accord ex last week and wanted to take it go get an oil change and the whole 9. yesterday i went to get an oil change and the guy said that there was an oil leak. i hadn't seen any leaks in the drive way so i brushed it off for him just trying to get paid more money.

today i went to the dealership to try and get a diagnostic appt and he said i could come back on wednesday. as SOON as i left the dealership and got on the highway my oil light started blinking. when I got home i looked behind the car and there was a trail of oil.

I checked the oil and it was completely empty...the tank cap is on and i didn't see any oil leaking from there but it's comming from somewhere else. where could it be leaking from?!?

there was a recall on a seal that will cause a sudden loss of oil.

SO STOP DRIVING YOUR CAR.

Have it towed to the dealer and have this fixed ASAP. Who knows what damage you might have done to the motor .. no oil .. bad

The recall deadline is over. It ended Jan 1, 2003. That recall also included a new engine if that seal went while driving and your engine seized up. When your oil light goes on, PULL OVER. Don't try to drive it either. It has to be towed.

Was there a rear main seal recall on those? I know mine leaked but I never heard of a recall.

Stew, you said that the recall included a new engine if it seized up. My seal went out while I was on the freeway, and I stopped as soon as I could, but it took some time to fight my way across 3 lanes of rush hour traffic.

Ever since, my car has consumed oil. I have lost track of how much time I've spent on the phone with Honda. I'm getting a major run-around. Any help/ideas you can give me?

Anything would be appreciated.

yeah if you got the car from a dealer , the car should have some kind of warranty from the delear for the first 1000 miles, or 30 days, something like that. please tell me you purchased some kind of warranty from the dealer.

if you got the car from a privet dealer then im not sure what you can do about the car getting fixed...........try to take them to court....

i hope i helped you some.

The seal itself, I have heard is just a retainer clip .. but if its a new rear main seal that needs to be replaced like mine did when it took my car in for the recal. I can't remember exactly, but it was 300+ bucks to get replaced.

You'll need to replace the timing and balancer belts. Getting soaked in oil is bad for them. Cost is around $450-$600 in my area.

The recall was for the balance shaft seal. They tended to pop out and when you take the car in for the recall a retainer would be installed to keep it from popping out. No recall on rear main. Have it checked asap unless you wanna buy a new motor
