People who dont want to dish out $400+ for HID.Another alternative 9005 Conversion.
I bought a pair of 9005 Slyvania Silverstar bulbs and did the conversion. All i can say is Wow! It is a lot brighter than the 9006. Very noticeable inside/out and it burns a lot whiter. People who never done this B4 I suggest you go out and buy it and see it for yourself.one more thing, stop wasting your money on those cheap ricey blue bulbs
hey man --- your info is appriciated, but people on this board have been doing it a long time.
furthermore, alot of people have been having problems with them burning out quickly.

Many people have had problems with the 9005 converted Silverstars burning out, including me. I ran 9005 Cool Blues for over 1.5 years with no problems, so I recoemmend those. They're only $15-$20 for a pair from Wal-Mart.
lots of people have done this already.. and there have been lots of threads on it....I've been running the 9005's for like a year now (w/ silverstars) when they blow out I'm either going to get a real HID system or just get another set of regular bulbs and do the conversion as a lot of people have said their silverstars blew out after 6-9 months... I'm not planning to keep my car that much longer....
hey patrick,
how did the 9005 coolblues compare to the 9005 silverstars? one of my piaa 9006 burned out today after 2.5 years of light and i'm lookin to just do the conversion. also is there another site aside from the bmw site that tells how to do it? i tried goin to it just now, and the server must be down...
TIA

I done the conversion with philips ice whites and the drivers side burned out inside 3 months, so i bought the cheapest set of bulbs i could ($3 ithink) and theyve been going strong for almost 5 months now!
I know it's not a teg or even projectors, but here is the conversion on my lude. The driver's side is the 9005 Silverstar conversion, while the passenger(which you can't really see anyways) is a 9006 Cool Blue. The Silverstar on that side burned out after 6 months. IMO, they are almost identical, but the Silverstar is a tad bit whiter. Once it goes, I plan on just getting another Cool Blue.
i've had my cool blues in for a year now, they are great, a big improvment over stock, and haven't burned out. i like them, and ya can't go wrong for the price

9005 conversions burns out faster due to its design. It was NOT designed to be frequently used as opposed to the 9006.

Good luck with it, hopefully it last more than a year.
Mine finally blew out after a bit over a year, not too bad compared to some people on the board which had them blow out in just 6 months.
Oh, anyone wanna buy a single 9005 silverstar?

9005 conversions burns out faster due to its design. It was NOT designed to be frequently used as opposed to the 9006.
, but for some reason they burn out after about 6-9 months (typically)
. So, the problem really isn't the design of the bulb, but the manufacter of the bulb.

so if its not the wiring or fault of the user install, running it frequently as a low beam would be a good indication of how well it performs as a highbeam :D
Don't want to curse myself but my 9005 silverstars are still going after 10-11 months.
$50 for a whole year of awesome night visability is DEFINATELY worth it. I'll buy them again when or if they ever burn out (knock on wood)
