Tonight when i was coming home from work i noticed that my clutch pedal almost goes halfway to the floor before i get any resistance. This seemed to happen out of the blue. I checked the fluid and it's filled to the top.

Now on my old cx a problem like this happened before and it turned out to be the slave cylinder. Am I wrong to think this could also be the case with my car (1997 ex)?
The clutch still engages good so i don't think it could be the pressure plate, but I could be wrong.
Somebody help me out!

 

Might be the slave or master leaking... not too sure though, only encountered this problem once before.

There is a leak in the the slave of a car that im about to buy. It has the same symptoms as u are describing.

It could be leak anywhere though.

 

Check out the entire system (there isn't much to look over). Look at the slave cylinder for any external leaks. Check the rubber line and hard line for leaks, and look over the clutch master cylinder really good.

If you can't find any external leaks, I'd bet that the clutch MC is leaking at the plunger seal. Have a look under your dash around the clutch pedal linkage. YOu will see where the pedal linkage ataches to the MC. Do you see any fluid moisture? If so order up a new MC and change her out.

I checked by the pedal this morning and there was clutch fluid all around where the plunger seal is. Damn. Looks like i will need a new clutch master cylinder. Anyone know how much they go for.?

It will have everything except the rubber gasket (for the firewall). Usually the original can be re-used. But if you want one in case I suggest ordering it at the same time. Also, you will need a cotter pin to replace the original....but you can get that from a hardware store.

Use care when loosening the connected fluid line....don't round off the fitting nut.
