Default Help with an automatic transmission

I have been plauged with an auto tranny. The car is a 99 ex. It was given to me as a gift from my parents. I also own a 92 prelude, stick.

My question is: I plan on swapping motors in the near future, I was wondering. I know that you must drop alot of money into an auto tranny to make it "durable."
Like high stall torque converter, tranny cooler. Could you actaully make an auto tranny as reliabe as a manual, like able to handle nitrous or a turbo. I know that it may sound dumb to alot of you.

But if I could actually do this, and the price to "build" the tranny wasnt to high. I would do that, and probably run some kind of nitrous setup. I asked about nitrous on an auto before, and on NX's website it says the prefered application is an auto.

So do you think I could actually "build" a solid auto tranny, and how much do you think im look at spending for this. If the price is to high, i'll just stick to my plans on the swap. Which is also going to cost alot of money also.

Thanks in advance.

So for about $2500, I can have a "bulletproof" tranny. Correct me if im wrong, but for that price cant I have a b16 swap with a manual transmission done?

I think im going to stick with my plans with the swap, what would be a solid motor to drop into a 99 coupe?, im not auto x'ing or anything. I just need something thats pretty solid.

Thanks for the help

I've been debating this issue hardcore for almost a year now....and all signs point to "no go"

I will be trading the car off soon, to go the cheap and easy way, through a manual!

Goodluck though if you try,,,,plan on spending MaD DoUGh yO!
peace

oh yeah, check this...

Well the civic was given to me as a gift from my parents, I cant sell it.
They will think that I dont appreciate what they bought me.
$2500 for a tranny seems way too much. I think I will swap.

I'll have to look into what motor I will buy.

Thanks.

I do, if I sold it, thats what they would think. Even though its auto, I appreciate it alot. Many people dont get a 99 civic as a gift. The first thing I said when I got it was thanks, not "why an auto?"

I was thinking if I could actually build up the tranny to be durable, then I would do it. But after seeing how much the tranny costs, im sticking with my plans of swapping. I still have to get recomendations on a motor to buy.

just my 0.2
I had an auto tranny myself too, and I used to hate it, but instead of selling the car which was way too complicated, I spent 400 Canadians and I'm having a shifter in there now. I did all the job bymyself and I'm quite happy with what I got now, there are some issues but hey, it's manual now!!!

Hey man, i hope you read the link that i provided...lots of good info there.
Anyway, it is possible to boost the honda auto, even though the valve bodies in the transmission are its weak point. THere are a couple people who i know that are running high 13's on the auto. Now how reliable this is gonna be, i donno. THese guys RARELY BOOST during city/highway driving in FEAR of something going wrong with the tranny. If I was in your situation, keep the car, i mean it was a gift!! Do a swap, and i think you'll be a lot more pleased, and worry free. If you go ahead and turbo it, just boost lightly, and not often.
Everything in moderation, right?
Goodluck!

Thanks, I will probably just swap the motor. At least if I plan on a turbo, I know my engine can handle it.

And what do you mean by shifter?, I dont understand

Thanks for the replies

Sorry man, but who are you to tell anyone what to do with their cars?
There are many advantages to fixing up an auto ESPECIALLY for drag racing...
The honda auto,,,well its going to cost more to do so, but its different than what everyone else is doing. its a challenge

Ok so its a challenge is it???? Well to me its just stupid. Its sorta like buying a Kia and fixing it up. Sure not everyone is building up the Kia but does that mean you should do it cause its a challenge??? A built auto honda tranny is a waste of money. If they were or could be durable at all would you not think that maybe even one of the fastest honda drag cars might use one????? The only one i know of is the one that sport compact car is doing and it is completly experamental. They have like 5k plus in just the tranny. So good luck with all that. Simply try to say that it is not worth the money at all.

Hey man, to each his own. To many people, modding hondas is stupid, ever thought about that??

Just because it costs more, doesnt mean its "the wrong way" to go...
I even said that its probably not the most effective way, thats why i'm selling mine!! But you come in here forcing your opinions like you are some god or something...
******* relax

I have been blessed with the Automatic Transmission as well. Dont feel bad, im about to start boosting on it. I have a friend whos about to be runnig over a Bar on his auto tranny civic..he went to Aamco after blowing his tranny and laid down over 3k and they rebuilt his tranny to handle boost...for me im starting with just changin the fluids everytime i chagne the oil..and im getting a tranny cooler as well. Eventually laying down the money for a Tourqe Converter, PTS upgrade, hydrolic upgrade etc etc from Levelten would be the after a while..I dunno something about beating someone, and them lookin in and seeing the automatic tranny sitting there. Its just so fun to do. Either way there is no cheap way to upgrade an auto tranny..never the less the outcome is beautiful

That would be nice, but to drop all that money into just the tranny seems way to high. I could swap the transmission, but for the trouble, and money im thinking it would be wise to swap the entire motor for something better.

Either way im looking at spending a bunch of money to do some sort of swap. I'll look into prices of motors and call up some local shops to see what they will charge for installation.

Thanks for the replies, except for the guy that told me it was a waste of time.
And you want to tell me its a waste, I think all that damn carbon fiber on the front of your car is a waste.
