Default VTEC Engagement Question

I read somewhere that you can buy an aftermarket chip that lowers the VTEC engagement.
Just wondering if this does any damage to the engine, or is a disadvantage in any way?

you should get a V-AFC. You can lower and raise your redline as you see fit. you can also control the air to fuel ratio in your car and if you have other mods such as Intake, header, and exhaust you can see some nice gains on the dyno. I think the price is around 325. try http://www.nipponpower.com

it's better to have mods, but it's jsut as good without mods. some people get up to 15WHP with a stock lude. but the only way to get best results are to dyno tune it.

can you read a diagram and cut and splice wires? if so, then you can install it yourself

just make sure you set it up before you start your engine...dont want the vafc to think your motor is a 6-cylinder...hehe

keep in mind that when you lower the VTEC engagement you get a lot worse gas mileage since it burns more gas in vtec.

No reason why you shouldnt be able to install it yourself.. i posted a wiring diagram and an idiot proof list of instructions about a month ago.. should be available if you do a search.. no reason why you couldnt install it yourself, but i dont reccomend tuning it without a dyno... if you have any questions let me know..

It all depends on how you run the V-AFC.

If you richen (add fuel) to your curve=worse gas mileage.

If you lean (remove fuel)=better gas mileage.

here comes the saying Tuning Is Everything..

Lord , is it still worth it to put in the VAFC even if it's gonna be a street car? I'm just looking for preformance out of the lude. Eventually maybe do some mods when I have the time and money, but you guys make it seem that its a good buy all around. Am I correct?

it can be real beneficial based on what mods you've done. what have you modded so far?

it is a good buy (in my opinion) all around.. regardless of whether your use is on the track or on the street, if tuned properly the VAFC can truely add a whole new dimension to your lude... the key lies in the tuning.
