Default Sound of Intakes

For those of you with aftermarket intakes could you explain the sound and how loud it is/what type of sound it is/when is it loudest, or any other info. Thanks!

Sometimes i wonder about intake too.. From my experiences and understandings..

Cold Air Intakes tend to be a lil quieter', probably because of the filter location.. Ram intakes are pretty loud.

i got my intake on my eclipse off of ebay, it is VERY loud, it makes a really loud sucking noise when you hit the throttle, then it makes a almost turbo like whine at higher rpms, i have had people compliment me on my turbo before because they heard it on the street, its REALLY LOUD, i have a video that i need to get hosted, its me passing a car videoing me, it seriously sounds like i have a turbo... but the car isnt going fast enought to have a turbo... hehe

short ram intakes tend to be louder, but cold air intakes have that louder sucking noise and at vtec it screams.but my advise go with the cold air you will be very satisfied.

man theres something about the DOHC non-turbo eclipse that when you put on an intake, its always loud as hell! ive never understood it, but then again ive never really thought that much into it. maybe the intake mani is big, or maybe the intake valves... i dont know. but yeah, intake noise is nice. its just so deep and throaty i guess. meaner sounding than a raspy 4-cyl exhaust. A'PEXi WS and Comptech IceBox ownz joo....

Forget the short ram and the cold air, this is better.

I have an RS*R exhuast, which is more performance tuned rather than sound tuned... more hp, less noise... so its basically not too loud, unless im in the land of vtec... i have an AEM cold air intake... its unnoticible, unless you floor the throttle... but doing so even at low rpm, gives off the quick sucking sound followed by a threatening rumble... its probably loudest and most full of bass around 4400 rpm, and then the air hissing silences round 5500 when vtec kicks in, just sounds like an F1 car then its beautiful, i totally recommend an AEM CAI, you truly feel a difference...

pretty much what they said..but you can hear a *FFFFFF* sucking sound with a quieter exhasut and higher RPM's..even in 1st hitting a like 5 or 6 you should be able to hear a good intake

AEM happens to sell an air by-pass valve for their CAI, that will solve ur water probs... a little extra bucks to get u running without probs...

I don't know about others, but I prefer the quietest intake and exhaust possible. Louder doesn't always mean better. I like the fact that my car doesn't sound like "just another annoying" ricer when I drive by a car or through a neighborhood. Plus it doesn't make as noticable whats under the hood

blah its like vroom normally then with cai its like vrOOOM a bit louder and deeper. hits harder in vtec like everyone said. i like how my car sounded before my custom catback even tho i silenced the muffler i still prefer to the mildly mean sound of intake alone. i too do not like to attract attention to my car. imo intake sound alone is perfect, meaner but not all that noticeable unless u wot.

At low rpms/normal driving, you won't hear ****, but once you floor it.....DAMN, that **** sounds MEAN!! And it's loud as hell. I was following my cousin one time in his GS-T (w/ intake and BOV) and he said he heard my **** when we were getting on the freeway with his radio on!! I love the sound of my AEM CAI.....nice and deep.
