Default Air intakes

I know that the CAI is a lot better than a short ram AI, but I had bad luck with my CAI. The piping was rubbing up against a metal piece in the engine and actually made a hole in the tubing. I also didnt like how wet and dirty the filter got in the rain and it wasnt an easy thing to remove the filter and clean it.SOOOOO, now I have a short ram air intake in the car but the filter is sitting inside the stock air box to keep the heat out. Is that a good idea? or should I take it out of the box and have it exposed to all the engine air? What set up do you guys think is best? The drawback is that the filter gets dirty fast, should I replace it or clean it. Its the air filter from the AEM CAI. Fits perfect in the airbox. Where can I get the same one? Let me know what you think. Thanks.

I'm paranoid about hydrolock, so I would go with the short ram. I could care less about how much hot air it's sucking in because, IMO, it works a lot better than the stock airbox, both in filtration and power. HTH

Yeah AEM CAI . I think I'll just keep the set up I have and clean and re-oil the filter.

hrm. yeah. short ram's safer. but it's not a good idea to drive in the rain with the CAI. you gotta take more precautions. with the shortram it's ok though. but you don't get good sound with short ram..
try K&N filters. they have boxes for theirs so it's safer to use them.

would it still be bad to have a CAI when it rains, but not that much? i live in bay area and i believe rain season is almost gone already, but would little rain kill it?
