there has always been mixed results about B series motors. wat can i do with $2000? which one?
-wat gen/year B series motor? why?
-VTEC or Non-VTEC?
-usdm or jdm?
-wat would hold up to daily driving?
-which is still capable of upgrades?
-which has plentiful amounts of replaceable parts?
-which would pass smog with no doubts?

Is 2k your total spending amount, or is that just for the engine? You should be able to find some B16's in that price range, but the change would be spent on replacement items (clutch, water pump,etc..)
You could also get a B18 for about 1200, and later on down the road do a vtec conversion or go turbo.
I would choose the latter.
Edit: A B-series is a B-series so just about every part is interchangeable with other B motors, and the aftermarket support for this engines is rediculous.

I've found B16's online from $1200 to $2500. on http://www.passwordjdm.com they have legit B16's for $2k.

Z6 plus turbo. Youll find building, repairing and god-forbid replacing d-series is pennies compared to b-series. you sound like your on a tight budget, so i say get the z6 swap and build it for turbo, then get lucky and find one cheap, or peice a kit with future power goals in mind. youll be dusting the b16s like cake.
If you really don't have to buy a new motor just yet, don't buy one. Save your money up until you can afford something like a b16, or a gsr. That's what I would do. I'm tired of coming across two grand and just trying to get the best deal. I would save up so I can either get a Type-R or a GSR motor.

1st gen B16A
not for 2k into a 92 si
I do an ls swap. Then plan on going turbo. That would be cheap and fun

if u know u are going to keep this car for a LONG TIME and u want to have optimal capability on it, get a b20. it's better built for taking vtec and turbo than ls.
Question, where can you get an LS swap for $2k???? I know everyone says junkyards, and there are "tons of LS's" but the tranny's are damn near impossible to find. Oh yea, one more thing. Isn't the LS tranny a better pick for turbo because of the longer gear ratios vs the GSR tranny?
i can't recall but i had an old integ da and in fd i was on 4 @80mph. my friends' 95 gsr goes the same. that is...for a 95 gsr n 91 da. but newer ones may be different.
