What is the difference between a B18A & B18B block?
I know they come from 2 different year cars, but my question is regarding the block.
I have been looking around for a B18B block only, but have had no luck for a month. I keep getting told that they are the same, except some of the sensor placement is different. This puzzles me b/c why can I find a B18A anywhere, but not a B18B? also why would HONDA use generally the same block for ? years?
could I sleeve a B18A and get the same results as a B18B?

we could split hairs.. but the blocks are more or less the same. the same parts will fit in either. they were made across 2 diff gen's.
what else could be the difference?
DOES ANYONE know? many have looked at the thread and I know there are not that many people on this board that dont know and cannot give me an in depth answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the b18a has a PCV system built into it.
The major differences between them as far as the blocks go are:
-coolant sensor for the fan control is on the back of the block on B18A and on the thermo housing on the B18B
-driver side motor mount that bolts to the block is different
-crank pulley on a B18A has a v belt for the power steering and on the B18B it has a Tri rib belt for the power steering.
As far as sleeving or building them goes they will be the same and with the proper changes they can go in either gen car.

so I would have to use the B18A driver side motor mount? Power steering? what's that..haha. But everything else about the block is the same....

92 hatch, I have the B18B in there now, looking to build the block, but cant find a B18B...looking at B18A as an alternative!
Yea, just use the b18b mount for the front ...and you should be cool.
The head is main diffrence and you will need to make a hole for the knock sensor, b18a has no hole, we just drilled one near the side mount inserted the knock sensor and had no problems
Also, the 94-up b18b has holes for the oil squirters incase you ever go n/a and want to rev to 9k, you just can put in some out of a vtec motor.
