what brands are good for muffler, intake and do i need to put on a whole exhaust system or can i just put a muffler and get a good sound?

 

Your question is very vague. It all depends on the application. If you're going forced induction or naturally aspirated.

I assume by your question, that you're not going to go turbo since you're asking about an intake. Basically most exhausts are the same. As long as the piping isn't too large in diameter (not larger than 2.5" or so) for N/A and there are mandrel bends, it should be good.

For an intake, everyone seems to be happy with the AEM CAI.

If you're just interested in sound...there are many cheap alternatives you can look for.
1) Universal canister
2) Axleback muffler
3) Short ram intake (short ram makes the loudest sound)

 

it my girls car, she really dont care about performance, just looks, so she really just trying to get a nice sound from it.....does the intake make it louder? and when it starts up will you hear it? if not what do you need to do?

 

Yes, the intake will make it louder. I don't have an AEM CAI, but I have heard from other people that it will whistle on idle. At WOT, it is also pretty mean sounding.

A while ago, I used to have a short ram intake. I have heard that a short ram will be louder on WOT because the sound doesn't have to travel as far before it reaches open atmosphere. They are also cheaper. I'd recommend this, if your girl is only interested in sound.

 

hahahahaha ... go for a cold air, nice sound i recommend AEM.

 

if she's wanting sound, i would reccommend a Helix Power Tower. it increases airflow and makes a very distinct loud whistling (kinda) noise when you hit around 3500 rpm.

 

and when ur GF drives in the rain and water gets sucked up in the CAI yada yada yada, get a short ram. u dont hear it at start up, but defintely hear it when accelerating.

 

you're saying only with the CAI you'll hear it at start up? not with short ram? and wont the AEM bypass valve keep water out?

You should be able to hear almost any air intake on idle and startup. Depends what it's made out of. If it is metallic, the sound will echo off the walls and it will be more distinct. The plastic/rubber materials they use sometimes won't be as much.
