Default Tranny trouble = grinds -- advice?

Car: '95 GSR (~110k mi.) with performance bolt-ons, springs/shocks, poly motor mounts & shift stabilizer kit, Clutchmasters Stage 3 clutch & 7 lb aluminum flywheel (5 mo. old w/ ~5k mi.) -- tranny fluid changed at clutch installation

Facts: I just replaced the clutch master and slave cylinders last week -- the car had been difficult to shift and grinding going into gear at most all rpm; seemed fine after part replacement

Symptom: car still grinds when I shift hard at high rpm and is sometimes difficult to get into gear at high rpm shifts, as well

What's the problem? I've done all that I can think of, short of a transmission rebuild (which I'd rather not do ). I wonder if it's more likely the transmission/synchros, or the poly shift stabilizer bushings causing the problems.

Advice?

Thanks.

Might be a long shot..but its more than likely your syncros or even...the type/quailty of your transmission fluid.

OEM Honda fluid.

I hope it's not synchros, but I'm afraid...........

sorry to say it bro its proably your sychros , i had one b16 tranny that good so bad it wouldnt go into 3rd gear, when i did my swap i got a jdm b16 tranny it shifted smooth for like 6 months , but then one night of street racing and one misshift it grings all the time in 3rd , honda trannys 3 rd gear sychros are known to grind (they should be a factory recall ) even my bone stock civic grinds 3rd , i have been thru like 3 trannys with my integra , but since you have a more expensive hydro tranny u proably needs a rebuild done the road , it sucks honda doesnt sell just the synchro so you have to buy the whole 3rd gear , expect to pay 500 for a rebuild off the tranny or 800-1000 if you have the tranny shop pull your tranny and rebuild and install it , or another option is buy a type r LSD tranny ( they go for around 1200) and sell your tranny as is 400-600

synchros arent our friends.......3rd gear and some times other gears on the gsr are known for grinding.

If it shifts fine in lower rpms, then it is the syncros.

Definately syncros. Dont put motor oil in your tranny, try using 1 quart GM Syncromesh fluid and the rest Honda MTL, worked on my friends car, no grinds for 8k miles.

My 3rd gear grinds if I'm above 6krpms. 5th gear grinds too if I'm over 60mph.

Will changing tranny fluids maybe help/remove some grinding problems? Or is it always the synchro...

Fresh fluid might help.

fresh fluid dont help jack. I have a grindding 3rd gear ls trans and I went from 10w30 to honda mtf and it still grinds and isent any smoother when shifting. I say the best thing to do is double clutch the grinding gear until you can repair it...

hey there is a special blend that my shop uses that might help. get 2 qts quaker state 10w30 and 1 qt non detergent motor oil, mix em and put it in. it seems to make the shifting a lot smoother

dude your telling people secrets here, keep that on the DL
does that "special" blend really work? I'm using redline MTL right now and it shifts smooth

Where ever that came from.

my gsr grinds 3rd. Been doing it 6 months now. I'd just let it grind until you can get a type r tranny with LSD.
