Default DEFEATING bolt cutters and tin sheers

How thick/wide does steel have to be before tin sheers and/or bolt cutters CANNOT cut through??

As an example: 1/8" thick and 2" wide? And what about bolt cutters? Could a bolt cutter get around a 1/2 bolt and cut it?

Finally, looking at the picture below, can you think of anyway a thief is going to get that welded bolt off easily, without a torch or power cutting tool? (the bolt is 3/8)

thanks in advance for your thoughts, experience and opinions.

that bolt could probably be cut with a hack saw, if the thief had enough time. cause it would take a while to cut, but could be done. other than that, they'd need some type of grinder or dremel or something.

Honestly, I don't think a thief would mess with your amps. The only way that I could imagine somebody taking those is if they had the entire car.

Maybe it would be more effective to consider the max time a theif would be willing to work on your car without stealing it. I think 5-10 minutes top. After that much time if they only want the system, I think they would leave.

Thats what im really trying to do, just make things too difficult and SLOW them down so that they just say screw it and look for an easier target.

I heard one guy sharpened the bottom of his amps like razor sharp so anyone not knowing thaat and grabbing them would get cut up...sounds pretty cool to me

if they dont steel anything they will definatelly vandalize your car inside and out. which in most cases is worse than the items stolen.

You did this all to protect your amps? Are they worth that much? How are they mounted? Under seat?

I want to get an amp and stick it under the seat, but people say its not enough ventalation.

I was looking at his other post https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=375691 they're just 2 MTX amps, 1 big and 1 small. and yes, they are mounted under the seats.

amazing what some people will do to protect their stuff, theres probably metal bars(like the ones used in jail) across the headunit so you cant steel that, lol

Personally i think it's a little overkill for the value of the system and as someone said before...whether they can get your amp or not, they're going to F*** something up. I have to give you credit though, it is a pretty creative way to protect your stuff.

I'm going to be mounting my amp on the bottom of my spare tire cover and try and keep my system a secret. I live in a pretty quiet area too so i'm not really too worried about theft.

A friend of mine is putting some serious $$ into his stereo so I'm going to suggest this to him.

I think a lot of the theft occurs because you ask for attention. I dont blast my stereo, and never do stupid **** anywhere within a 15 mile radius to my house.
My car looks stock now, not an attention grabber. And a good security system keeps my mind at somewhat ease.

The two amps cost me $650.00, and for me thats a lot of money, especially right now, so im willing to go to some moderate extremes to keep em.

There is also a benefit to knowing the the bastard theives did NOT get my ****.

As far as my car getting messed up, thats what my comprehensive coverage is for on my insurance with a ZERO deductable...what ever gets screwed up cosmetically gets replaced with new dealer items, so let em mess it up.

And yeah, hahaha, i did put steel around the head unit (in the back) so that it is bolted in with a steel strap, and it cannot be pulled out of the dash without first undoing the rear screw, whcih is very, very difficult to get to...especially now with some other stealth security work i have done.

I know i need to get a life...but right now this is my obsession and im enjoying the hell out ot it!

Appreaciate the (thoughtful and constructive) feedback and thoughts and ideas...the other you just have to put up with to get the good stuff.

And yeah, dont blast your stereo in your own neighborhood....i try to keep the appearence sleeper, but its kinda hard to hide the sound of my blow off valve! Course, I could go slow, but I often lack the discipline to do that...oh well...
