i have an si gauge cluster with the tach, and i was looking at it. There is a heavy thick line to mark 0 rpm, a medium thick line, followed by a light line, and finally the line for 1000rpm. my question is this: the medium line, just above 0 rpm, does that mark 500 rpm, and the light line 750? I never really thought about and assumed that the whole range was linear....

According to that pic the needle doesn't rest at zero for some reason. That looks to be the 500 and 700 marks. It's not a stupid question if your truelly curious as to why something is that way. I have a feeling they did that because your never going to be looking at your tach if the cars isn't running so why why waste the space with having it go all the way to zero.
tzsir, they gave us up the bomb.
hehe, this is carsaregood on a friend's computer btw. but, it looks to rest at 0 rpm to me... and are you sure its 500 and 700? i still think its 500 and 750. if you look at the 1k to 2k range, or any other range for that matter, 1500 is, naturally, marked off halfway between 1 and 2000. that mark looks just like the one i think is 500 rpm. the two smaller marks immediately above and below 1500 divide this 1 to 2k range into quarters... making them 1250 and 1750 rpm... i'm sorry if this is blindingly obvious, but i just can't seem to see why you would say 700 rpm instead of 750. thanks for your response! and yes, i agree, there is no real point to waste space on the tach and show anything below 500 rpm.
