Default why do you guys think the VORTEC sc hasnt really taken off?

i dont know exact number of sales but this thing isnt very popular imo, the owner of clubsi toots it like all hell but he did have a deal w/ vortec on that, seems like a well packaged sc and makes nice #'s but i dont see it as popular as the turbo or even the jrsc?

just want to start a friendly debate

When people think of supercharger they think of the monster muscle cars of old with big blowers stick out of the hood. The common consensus tells us a supercharger just give smooth power and right of idle. Not at peak like the Vortech unit. Also the sticker shock. $4000 for one with out aftercooler? That's insane.

I believe the phrase "Turbo on a Stick" has been tossed around on this board before. The price and power delivery is just not worth it, when for less money one can be into a turbo setup that is more reliable and creates more power just as "safe" as they say w/ proper tuning.

a well packaged sc and makes nice #'s
the reason it sucks so bad is hidden inside the #'s themselves. peak hp #'s may look spectacular but it all comes down to area under the curve. they took a car with a peaky powerband and added boost that comes linear to rpm; what kinda crap is that? peak torque @ peak rpm! its called NEVER ENDING LAG my honda-tech buddies. personal flame to vortech here but Im sure they knew their product sucked when they made it, I just think the neglected to acknowledge the fact that while us honda owners are fascinated with peak hp #'s we also know a thing or two about torque. I feel bad for any Si owner who purchases this kit and I will gladly race some sense into them if they are local.

JRSC supercharger: full boost; 6psi @ 2000rpms.
T3/T04e turbo: full boost; 8psi @ 3800rpms.
vortech supercharger: full boost; 8-9psi @ 7900rpm's. lag? nooooo really!

its tuff to have a 1 sided debate. by all means, I would love to see some good evidence on why a centrifugal supercharger is good for a 1.6L vtec motor. lets get this debate started!

it not that vortech superchargers suck, its when you combine a vortech with a puny little 1.6 or 1.8L is when they suck. The motors are too small for the vortech that's sucking up HP off the crank and boosting to late to make them viable on a honda. They're alright on a V8 making well over 500+whp(some over 1500hp) and with a shiet load of torque down low even without the SC.....
