Default Squeaking Distributor

It just started about a week ago, it's not every time but usually after the car sits for a couple days. I recently replaced my cap/rotor a couple months ago. The noise sounds like a squeaking and it also sounds like grinding. I took off my cap and there's some kind of light carbon inside the cap. Could it be my bearings?
Also it goes away after I drive... TIA

I hate that sound. It has happened to me twice now. It usually means it's time to say goodbye to that distributor.

So is the whole distributor wasted or is there a specific part I can rebuild? It's been off/on for about a week, can I make it a week till I either rebuild or get a new one?

There is a recall on some integra distributors. I forget exactly which ones, just giving you a heads up, so don't flame me if you guys already know. I had a 1992 integra start making wierd noises, and it was replaced by the dealer free of charge, and this was like 6 years after I bought the car.

It could be the bearings that are making the squeaking noise. I have heard of some people who were able to replace the bearing without buying a whole new distributor- Even if you are able to locate the correct replacement bearing size, it will not be easy to press the old bearing out of the distributor housing, and get the new one in there. Maybe somebody more informed can add some insight.

Well I'm using an OBD0 B16 distributor, so I'm thinking the recall is out
There's a guy on ebay that sells JDM B16 distributors for $270/shipped-BRAND NEW. I'm thinkin I might just get one.

The bearings in the dist. housing are shot. They can technically be replaced if you take the dist to a machine shop.

Easiest way is to just get a new distributor. Mine lasted like this for a couple days until the dist. shaft got so hot it melted the rotor and the car died on the freeway.
