vtec crossover
when does the vtec crossover occur on my f23 in my 98 accord 5spd? just curious.
The F23 has variable high cam engagement. it can be as low as 2300, up to 3500 depending on throttle position and manifold pressure.
low cam leaves one intake valve almost closed to promote mixture swirl in the combustion chamber. VTEC for lean burn and fuel economy.

when i open the throttle up all the way at low speeds (5-10mph) in second gear, the car kinda jolts between 2000 - 3000 rpms. is this jolt i feel vtec engagement? i always thought engagement was alot higher than that. so vtec engagement depends on throttle position... when i'm doing 80 down the highway in 5th gear with the engine spinning about 3000rpm under light load, i'm pretty sure vtec isn't engaged. but does it engage if i transition to full throttle (without downshifting)? sorry, i'm just ignorant and curious.
he is right, most SOHC VTEC motors have variable high cam engagement. also, make sure your engine is warm or it won't engage vtec. DOHC VTEC on the other hand has a permanent engagement point, like the h22 engages vtec at around 5700-5800 rpm every time...(im not sure on the rpm, its just an example).
