Will a bad TPS make my car run bad?
i think my tps is bad, b/c the car searches for an idle sometimes and most of the other times just idles at 2,000rpm. i am pretty sure the TPS is bad b/c i've tired everything else. so i was just wondering if this is bad, if it would make the car run like ****?
When you are not changing the throttle/ when you are holding it in one position, or keeping your foot off the petal completely, the computer doesn't care about the TPS at all. Only when the throttle position is changing, then the computer either gives the engine a bunch more gas (stomp on the throttle) or cuts it lean (let off the gas). The only reason the TPS could be messing up your idle is if its giving a changing signal to the computer, and I highly doubt that is happening.
actually, i believe it is giving it a changing signal. b/c sometime when its just sitting there, the afc will sit at 0%thr and sometimes it goes from 1,2,or3% THR. So i think it is giving it a changing signal and messing up the idle not causing it to stay steady which in turn is causing it to search for a idle or stay at 2k.
Your TPS has to show .45v at idle, if it's off, your car runs like ****. The voltage increases as you give the car gas.........if it starts out at the wrong voltage, the ECU will think you are giving it more or less gas than what you really are (depending where it is set at from the beginning) and in turn this will make your car run like ***. If it's off enough, I am sure this will affect your idle. I think you have to buy a whole throttle body to get a TPS sensor from a dealer, correct me if I am wrong, but I do not think you can buy new TPS sensors by themselves.
