Those who have ground control's question
There's a couple of things I wanted to know about the ground control kit. I have koni yellows and was thinking of getting the threaded sleeve kit from koni. It comes in two sizes 2.25 ID spring or 2.5 ID spring perches. I know the ground control uses 2.25 ID springs and was wondering if the springs that come with the kit are wider or narrower than the stock springs? or Are they identical in size?
I should clarify that i want to reuse my h&r race springs with the koni sleeve kit.
Also did the ground control's come with the top hat or just the sleeve and perch? Like in the following picture
Thanks for the help

Dont know if this answers your question but my Civic ground controls came with exactly what is in your picture. Also, your strut will most likely be a lot smaller diameter than the sleeve, one solution is to wrap duck tape strips around it till it is a tight fit. I guess it's good practice so there is no chance of movement.
MOST sleeve kits use 2.5id springs
GC sell both 2.25 an 2.5 id springs
If your koni sleeves have perches that are made for 2.25id springs then use 2.25id springs.
The only things that you can change beside ID is length and rate.

Hey,
My ground control coilovers just came in today which I bought from a fellow honda-tech member for a fair price ($160 shipped). This thread relates to a question I have... there are no top hots! The GC site shows alluminum top hats, and this picture shows the rubber and mine have none. I saw someone posted that the older version didnt come with the top hats... so why werent they included with these older ones and whats the benefit of having them? I have some knock-off ground controls sitting here which someone her tried to pass off as the real thing (and I got taken $200)... even they have the alluminum top hats!
I was a little concerned when I opened the package and saw they werent there... please comfort me!

Oh, I almost forget. Which number on the spring is the spring rate, and which ones go in the front, and which in the rear... they both seem to be identical height.
the higher number should go in the front and the lower in the rear because of hondas weight dis. its all in the front in a hatch or crx well thats my 0.02

the spring rate should be a three digit number like 450 400 or something like that most have the highest in front and lowest in back because of the engine and every thing that makes the front hevier than the back the best would be 475 front 425 rear talked to a guy who had that in his del sol and he loved it it was really stiff
Does that mean my springs are 180f 180r (numbers from springs I posted above)??
Thanks
Thanks
GC180.64.44: The part number indicates a spring length of 180mm length, 64mm inside-diameter, 44 spring-rate (Newton meters -- multiply by about 5.7 to get 250).
The convention is part number = xxxx.xxx.xxxx for length.diameter.rate
Many (ERS, for example) read: inches.inches.lbs/inch
So with my numbers (GC180.64.61 / GC180.64.44) its 250/350 spring rates? Are those good rates for a daily driven car which I can to autocross?
And your saying I should put the stiffer ones upfront?
Also, any insight what Im supposed to do without the top hats?
Thanks for all your help guys!

I guess I can reuse the original ones. Im a little pissed off though, I just emailed the h-t member I bought them from and he responded:
"hi, i never said the top hats were included. i just said it was gc coilovers and i never said it was COMPLETE."
Now get this, when I was asking him about the coilovers before I bought them here is what he said:
"Yes it comes with everything you wil need. Let me know if you want it, thanks"
What should I do with this guy? Im going to hold back his username in case he decides to make this right.

That is still a form of a scam---selling incomplete product to make money--u got lied to---if he doesnt make it right post his name to be permanently ruined.
I can see if I have some extras. I don't run them up front since I use the OEM hats, and I'll be replacing the rears with aluminum anyway. Either way, depending on the car you may be better using your OEM ones up front anyway, so you only need the rears. You can use just about anything in place of the rubber ones (even more rubber cut to fit).
travis... I see your avatar is the pic from ground-control.com... is that your crx?!? I always show people that picture! Wow, very sweet car man! But damn, it looks like your gonna flip over!
But hey, if you have those extra front hats, could I use them in the rear, and the oem ones up front? If you have them, let me know how much you want shipped. Or if I just dont need them at all, let me know.
Thanks!

As for the top hats, like I said I'll look. I think GC only sent me two for the rears because you don't use them up front. If I have extras I'll IM you. But seriously, any high density rubber will work. They don't stay in place anyway when you unload the spring (mine are always coming out of the top hats in the rear, so I eventually zip tied them all together). Cut a hole in the middle for the rod and you're good to go. You should put something in there, even if it's metal just to give something for the spring to sit against.
